 Percy

Percy wished he could say that the fight was going well.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t exactly the case.

The monsters rushed forward all at once, forcing the demigods to retreat a few steps. The fight had barely started and yet they had already lost their ground.

Percy felt liquid adrenaline pumping through his veins like fire, filling him to the brim with strength. He hacked at the monsters like they were merely paper, and soon he was coated in a thin layer of monster dust. However, he was acutely aware of the giants circling him; occasionally, Percy would have to leap to the side to avoid a club or a spear aimed carelessly at his head, but they were more toying with him than anything else.

He ducked to avoid the talons of a dracaena and slashed his sword through a whole line of empousai before vaulting to the side and stabbing the same dracaena in the chest. She dissolved with a wail.

Annabeth stayed by his side, always protecting his back and holding her own with her sword, even though she fought better with her knife. Her blonde curls bounced wildly as she spun and stabbed a hellhound, despite the fact that she had yanked it back into a ponytail many times as she fought. Her grey eyes sparkled with their usual intelligence and Percy had to remind himself not to stare, especially since the world was about to end (or wake, depending on how you look at it).

Percy gasped as a hellhound raked its claws along his right shoulder blade and he fell to one knee, his vision tinged with crimson. Riptide fell out his hand and clattered onto the cobblestones.

However, he was immediately surrounded by Jason and Hazel, who wiped out the monsters lunging at his weakened state. Annabeth crouched at his side, shoving a whole square of godly food in his mouth. “Trust you to be the first one injured.” She grumbled.

Percy glanced at a graze on her arm and he reached for it. “I’m barely the first one to get hurt, Wise Girl.”

She gave him a quick but passionate kiss and helped him up, scooping up Riptide before placing in his hand. “Is your shoulder better?”

It stung a little and he felt a wet patch on his shirt where the blood had obviously soaked the fabric. “Yeah.” He said.

Annabeth looked like she wanted to press on the subject but at that moment, Hazel slashed her spatha through a line of empousai and galloped forward on Arion, making the remaining monsters withdraw with fear.

The rest of the demigods advanced, gaining some more ground. But with every monster they cut down, several more climbed out of the earth. The ground seemed to stick to Percy’s shoes, making his strikes and movements slower.

The giant Thoon wrapped both of his huge hands around the base of his Celestial bronze club and hefted it up.

“Annabeth!” Percy shouted, alarm and horror coursing through his veins, which quickly changed to relief as Annabeth leapt to avoid the massive club crashing to the ground, squishing a few hellhounds. Clods of dirt flew up, but Annabeth stood, filthy, but unharmed.
