15 Years Ago: Talcoma Heights High School
Y/N's POV
"Y/N give me a break okay? I'm trying to understand why you do the things you do, and you make it so difficult. Smoking on the school grounds?! That's immediate cause for expulsion." The guidance counselor lectured as I sat inside the principal's office, waiting for my parents to show up.
"Miss Harris, I need a moment alone with Y/N before her parents arrive. Can you wait outside my office?"
The short, fiery woman left Principal Nelson's office, and the married woman with a PhD in Education or something looked me square in the eyes.
"What do you want out of life Y/N?"
"Huh? What kind of question is that to ask me now of all times?"
"A perfectly reasonable one. Answer the question."
I shrugged and thought of something to satisfy her. "Uhm, to be happy I guess. I want to wake up in the mornings and not regret it. I want a future where I don't have to struggle and can take care of myself without hating it. I don't know."
"Y/N, happiness is achieved by those who search for it. You'll have to get your heartbroken or your dreams crushed a little, but it'll only make for a greater you in the end. Surround yourself with people that'll make you happy for a reason, not a season. I'm sad to see you go, and I wished I had a say so in this matter, but I want you to promise me one thing: don't stop living your life, because it hasn't even begun."
"Sure thing."
I was shipped off to boarding school in Orange County, California a few days later, hyped on the prospect I'd making a fresh start. I'd been slightly depressed at my old school because my parents were never around and I essentially had no one to confide in. I was told this would be a different story.
Once I stepped through the halls of the Rickshaw Major High School, I felt out of place again. This place was a fucking maze, and my supposed tour guide was sick and hadn't shown up for school. There was however a blonde girl seemingly struggling with some books in her locker. I decided to approach her for two reasons: she was in need of help as I was, and from the back, baby looked gorgeous as fuck.
"Here let me help," She jumped in surprise when I caught her falling books and gave me a nervous smile when I handed them back to her. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. Just wanted to help. And I could use some help myself. I'm new and lost as fuck. They didn't mention how huge this place was. My tour guide is sick and I think you're a lot prettier anyways. Will you show me around?"
I frowned in confusion and embarrassment as she rapidly shook her head and scurried off, clutching her books as close as possible to her. A firm hand on my shoulder made me jump, and the beautiful blonde behind me almost got her pretty little face rearranged.
"Jesus you're a jumper. I'm Melanie Austin, president of the junior class. I'm taking your original tour guides place today. Is that okay?"
