"How about this one."

Macey stepped out of the changing room wearing a dark red dress that was long enough to touch the floor. The V neck was deep, but not too exposing. It would have been a good choice had it not been for the large amount of diamonds on the top half. Plus, the dark red of the dress didn't go well with her red hair.

"Eh. It's too red," I said.

"It's too ugly."

"Carmen!"

"What? She wanted honesty," Carmen said while munching on a Cheeto. "I say you go with a black dress."

"As much as I hate to admit it, black would be the perfect color for you. Every other color will clash horribly with your hair," I said.

Macey frowned and faced the mirror. She picked up a strand of her hair and twisted it around her finger.

"It's days like this where I wish I never dyed my hair," she sighed.

After twirling one more time in the dress, she stepped away from the mirror and hurried into the changing room. Once she was gone, Carmen pulled out her phone, put down her Cheeto bag, and began to search through Twitter.

"At least try to act like you're having a good time."

"I'm so bored right now. You dragged me to this stupid dress shop and I'm not even going to prom. I want to go down to the arcade," she whined.

We were at the mall in this cute little dress shop Macey recommended. Prom season was here and there were teenagers everywhere trying to snag the perfect dress. I looked at the other girls who were trying on dresses with their friends and smiled sadly.

I was really excited to spend today doing the same. But Ashton called about an hour ago saying he already had the perfect dress picked out for me.

"You know, you wouldn't be so grumpy if you were dress shopping as well," Macey said from inside the room.

"Me and Nick aren't going to prom. That's so gross."

"Yes and throwing wild, illegal parties are way better," I said sarcastically.

"Exactly!" she responded.

I rolled my eyes and continued waiting for Macey to come back out. She told me yesterday that Trevor asked her if she wanted to go to prom with him. He no longer stayed in his room all day or acted indifferent towards people. He was noticeably more happy and content with everything that happened. He even wished Carmen and Nick good luck in their relationship.

We could hear Macey shuffling through the racks of dresses she couldn't choose from. After a long ten minutes, she gasped and squealed excitedly.

"I think I found something!"

"Well hurry up!" Carmen said through a mouthful of Cheetos.

I glared at her and she shrugged innocently. I love my best friend but sometimes I regret taking her places.

"Okay, what about this."

Macey stepped out of the room once again, and I was completely in awe. I even heard a tiny gasp from Carmen.

Macey was wearing an all black long dress. It was strapless and hugged her body, but not too tight. There were no jewels on it like the others, this one didn't need it. She turned around so we could see the back. At the bottom of the dress was a sheer black fabric with patterned flowers. The fabric spilled out onto the floor behind her.
