I haven't seen Logan in months, which I was grateful for. The last time I saw him was in front of my house awhile after Michael's party. He had said goodbye. Apparently, we had different definitions of the word.
Because here he was, sitting in front of me in the back seat of a limo as we were driven to some mysterious destination.
Logan has changed quite a bit during our time apart. He was always strong, but now you could see muscle bulging through his black long sleeved shirt. His brown hair was longer and shaggy. He even had slight stubble growing along his chin.
His attitude is what changed the most. Before, all I saw was a goofy boy with so much light in his eyes. Now, his expression held nothing but authority. There was nothing happy that could be seen in those stone cold eyes.
"What are you looking for?" I spoke up after about ten minutes of him scrolling through my phone. We already passed the location of the prom a few minutes ago. I beat against the window in a panic, trying to get the students attention but they didn't pay us any mind. A few glanced, but nothing more. The windows were tinted so you couldn't see me frantically beating on the window and no one could hear me over the music and loud chatter.
"Nothing in particular. Ashton seems really worried about you. 'Peyton, what's happening?' 'What's going on?' 'Are you okay?' If only he knew," he chuckled. I'm guessing he was reading the texts Ashton was sending. Ever since I stepped foot in the limo, my phone vibrated every minute or so. I'm assuming they were from Ashton.
"What do you want with me? Why are you doing this?" I ask.
"Nothing," he answers simply without taking his eyes off of my phone.
I frown in confusion. He has to want something. Who holds a person against their will on such an important night? And surely he knows the consequences. Once he lets me go, I'll tell Ashton and I have no doubts that he'll give him another black eye.
"It's not what I want. It's what Jacob wants," he finishes with a smirk as he notices my fearful expression.
Of course it's Jacob.
Our conversation from months ago suddenly flashes through my mind, and it's like a light bulb goes off.
"It wasn't supposed to go down like that. I just needed to get you away from Ashton."
"Why?"
"He told me too."
I was on the edge of screaming in frustration. What has my life become?!
"Who?! Who told you to do that?"
"That's not important right now. I'm just hear to say goodbye."
"Fine. Goodbye and good riddance. Oh and by the way. You didn't come between me and Ashton. If anything you did the exact opposite. We're closer than ever now."
"I know," he says while walking away from me and heading towards his car. Before he gets in, he turns to look at me with a stone cold expression on his face.
"But the closer you two get, the worse things will become."
"Jacob. This whole time...it's been Jacob. He was the one who told you to get together with me. But why?" It was slowly coming together now. But I just needed that final question to be answered for it all to make sense.
