I stood on the front porch, playing with my fingers and letting my eyes travel aimlessly over the massive home. I seemed to find every aspect of the exterior of the house to be very interesting. The small garden underneath the living room windows, the shade of the blue the house was painted, even the shining glass windows. I knew I was stalling by looking around aimlessly but I just couldn't force my hand to press the damn doorbell!
Inside the house sat Ashton. I've continued to avoid him at school. Even going to the extreme by speeding into an unnecessary stairwell that I don't usually take when he tried to get my attention.
Before Sabrina came back into the picture, we discussed the plan of ending this gang business once and for all. And this plan was set to start today.
Maybe he forgot?
He was definitely home though. And maybe his parents too because there was a car in his driveway that I didn't recognize.
After a couple seconds of hesitation, I step up and press the bell, quickly pulling back as soon as I hear the sound. Anybody watching would've thought I was electrocuted by the way I acted.
There was no dog barks from behind the door. I frown, wondering if Cookie wasn't here or just in the backyard.
I jump back as soon as the door gets pulled open. My breath catches in my throat as I come face to face with Ashton.
Even though it looked like he had just gotten out of bed, he was looking as handsome as ever. His hair was a disheveled mess, but in a cute type of way. Little black strands were pointing in every direction.
He wore a simple pair of black sweat pants and holy moly, he was shirtless! I don't mean to sound like an overreacting pre teen who gawks at shirtless models on magazines or anything, but could you blame me?
I was instantly taken aback to the most intimate moment of my life. The time when I was most vulnerable, prepared to give him everything-
Okay Peyton! Time to settle those overactive hormones and get back to the plan.
Right.
"Uh, what are you doing here?" he asks warily.
"Not what I was expecting but I can't blame you considering how I've been acting lately," I say. I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion as his eyes avoid mine. He leans on the door and begins to tap it impatiently.
"Maybe you should go," he says.
His statement was like a slap in the face. My eyes widen slightly, pain at being rejected quickly replacing the shock. His pained expression didn't go unnoticed by me.
"Why?" I ask. "Don't you remember what today is?"
He looks confused for a few seconds until realization takes over and his mouth forms a little 'o.' But before he could say anything, he's cut off.
"Who's at the door?"
My body instantly stiffens at the new voice. Although I've only heard it once, the irritating sound has found a permanent place in my mind.
I look at Ashton whose gaze is locked on the ground in shame.
My heart beats erratically as Sabrina comes up behind him, wrapping one arm around his waist like his girlfriend isn't standing two feet in front of them.
