"Are you gonna kill me?"
"Well that wasn't part of the plan but if you keep asking questions I just might," Macey grumbles. But I didn't miss the hint of sarcasm that laced her voice, letting me know that she was just messing with me.
Macey blindfolded me about half way through where ever we were going to now. The sun had set awhile ago and the only light she was provided was given by the crescent moon and stars. Unlike me who was literally covered in darkness.
"Ow! Stupid rock," she hissed.
After she helped me out of the car, she continued to guide me through what felt like some rocky terrain. Clearly she wasn't dealing well.
Sticks continued to break and the cool wind whistled through my ears as we marched on to this unknown destination.
"Okay, we're here!" Macey clapped excitedly and moved in front of me.
In one swift motion, she lifted the blindfold from my face. I had to blink a few times to readjust my vision but what I saw in front of me made me gasp in shock.
It was some type of tunnel covered in bright gold lights. It didn't take long for me to realize that she had taken me to the forest that Ashton showed me months ago. And I just knew that this beautiful tunnel would take me to our spot.
"Have fun," Macey says in a song song voice. She gently pushes me towards the lighted path before letting go and taking a few steps back. Before she goes, I turn around and engulf my friend in a big hug; our first hug.
The gesture visibly takes her off guard. Her body tenses but after a moment, she lifts her arms up and wraps them around my smaller frame.
When I pull back, I could've sworn there were tears swimming in her eyes. But in the blink of an eye, they were gone.
"You better go. He's waiting for you," she smiles.
"Thank you." She nods once and I start towards the tunnel. It was impossible not to gape at the golden fairy lights hanging from the trees above or the lights sticking out of the ground that lit the path.
When I turn back around, Macey is gone. I keep walking, even picking up my pace a little as I start to hear slow music in the distance.
As soon as I reach the end of the tunnel, I'm met with even more lights. The big oak tree that used to be bare was now covered with twinkling pink and gold fairy lights. Each of the thick, bottom branches were wrapped neatly in the bright decorations on the surrounding trees. Slow music played from hidden speakers.
It was as if I was in my own little fairy tale, walking up to my grinning Prince Charming.
"What did I do to deserve you?" I ask him.
