Chapter 2

Chapter 2- And So It Begins

Clary's pov-

We got off the plane after a very long flight. We went to get our rental car and drove about ten minutes to the airport. The closer we got the more nervous I became. I felt a hand on my knee and looked down to see Brody's hand.

"It'll be ok, I'm here for you." He said. I nodded back.

Brody is one of my closest friends, next to Isabelle. Ya we've slept together a few times, but we both know that we will never be anything more than friends with benefits.

We pull up to the hotel and give the valet the keys. We walk into the lobby and see all of our family and friends that were in the bridal party or close family of the bride or groom. We started giving hugs and I introduced Brody to people.

I saw Simon's mom, sister, one of his cousins that's a groomsman, and a few other friends of ours from high school.

I looked around for anyone else and from across the room I saw a golden color that I've only ever seen in one place. He turned around as if he could feel my eyes on him and his eyes met mine. I stared into those golden eyes that I fell in love with and I could feel my walls start to crumble.

I snapped my eyes away when a hand intertwined with mine. I smiled up at him silently saying thank you. He nodded back with a smile, knowing exactly what I was trying to say.

I glanced back over and he was gone. I thought I would feel relieved that his eyes weren't on me anymore but I felt sad. I went on greeting people and catching up with people I haven't seen in years.

I turned around to walk away from an old friend of mine and I ran in to someone. Luckily they caught me from falling. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." We said at the same time. I froze at that voice. I slowly looked up and was met with gold. He let go of me and I straightened myself out.

"Hey Clary." Jace said awkwardly. "Heyyy." I replied. "H-how've you been?" He stuttered. "Great. Umm, you?" I asked. "Perfect, done with college so thats great!" He said. "Same..." I replied. An awkward silence fell over us.

"Hey Clary there you are!" Thank god Brody! "Jace this is Brody. My boyfriend." I said. "Oh...Hey nice to meet you." Jace said. For a minute I thought I heard sadness in his voice.

Then someone I never thought I would see again walked up behind Jace. "Oh hey babe, Clary I believe you know Jenna." He leaned down and kissed her cheek. "Good to see you again Clary." She smiled at me.

He brought Jenna! How could he?!

Brody broke the awkward silence. "Ok well, we're gonna go find our room. We'll see you at dinner?" He said enthusiastically. "Ya see you then!" Jenna responded. I broke my eye contact with Jace and walked away with my hand linked in Brody's.

We went up to our room and got dressed in comfortable clothes. We laid down in the king size bed. I rested my head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat.

"Thank you for saving me back there Brody. You have no idea how hard that was for me." I said quietly. "Anytime princess." He kissed my forehead as we took a short nap.

We woke up forty minutes later. We had about an hour and a half to get ready for dinner. Izzy and Simon had reserved the restaurant downstairs in the hotel for the whole wedding party to go eat dinner.

I jumped in the shower and quickly washed off so Brody could shower. I got out and wrapped a towel around my body. I walked out into the room and found Brody asleep on the bed.

"Brody! Wake up!! Get in the shower!!" He shot up at the loud noise right in his ear. "Jesus! Clary that hurt!" I laughed as he walked into the bathroom.

I got dressed in a simple but sexy black dress and some black pumps. I did natural makeup with nude lipstick.

While I was doing my makeup Brody walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. I couldn't help but stare as water drops dripped down his chiseled chest into the area hidden behind the towel.

"My eyes are up hear sweet-cheeks." He said with a smirk. "Maybe I'm not trying to look at your eyes." I said with a smirk back. I turned around at the vanity and finished my makeup while Brody got dressed in a dressy shirt and jeans. While he did look sexy, I couldn't help but remember how sexy Jace looks like this.

I shook those thought from my mind as I slipped on my shoes and we headed down to dinner.

We walked in and noticed that almost everyone was already down here. Izzy and Simon sat at the head of the table together. Magnus sat next to Izzy with Alec across from him. Jace was next to Alec with Jenna on his side, and I was across from him with Brody.

Through most of dinner, I caught up with Magnus and Alec. Brody and Jenna were talking most of the time which I though was weird. Shouldn't Jenna be talking to her boyfriend?

I figured Jace and I should learn to get along since we are the maid of honor and the best man, so we would be doing a lot of things together. You are probably thinking 'Jace is Simon's best man?!' Well over time since they were roommates in college, they became really close. They're best friends now. Strange, I know. 

"So Jace, since you're out of college now, will you be taking over your parent's company?" I asked him as everyone else conversed around us. He looked at me shocked. "I'm surprised you remember. Um ya I will be soon enough." He said with a small smile. "So what about you? Any plans?" He asked. "I have been offered a job at a company for graphic design. I'm very excited. I will be designing logos and business cards and ads and other things for companies around the US." I said with a genuine smile. "That sounds perfect for you." He replied.

We caught up for the rest of the night at dinner until it was over. We all headed up to our rooms and got some sleep since we have things to do tomorrow. That night I dreamt of the future Jace and I might have had if things had been different.
