Part Eleven: Louis
Despite my protests, Harry walked me all the way to my front door. I know, it’s all a bit cliché, awkward new girl falls for tall dark and handsome boy. However, I’m not a girl, so in a way, I suppose that this isn’t cliché at all. Nothing about Harry and I was what I had expected. That uncertainty made me a bit anxious, but at the same time I loved Harry’s unpredictability. He seemed so outgoing and confident and ready to do anything, and I had to admit that it was nice to have someone like that around.
“Do you want to come in?” I ask, prodding Harry for a yes. I haven’t told my dad about Harry yet, and I think that it would probably be a good idea for my dad and my brother to meet him; with him having asked me out and all. I also want to see how they react to him. I want them to like him. Considering that I’d never brought a guy home to meet my family, I wanted the first (and maybe last? Am I foolish to think about that so early on?) one to be good.
And he is.
He really is.
“Harry?” I poke, pressing my fingers into his tummy, the fabric of his sweater denting in at my touch.
“Hmm?” he turns his head down suddenly, as if he hadn’t heard me.
“Would you like to come inside?”
He nods sheepishly, pulling me ahead of him. “I’d…I’d love to.”
With a grin I push the front door open. I know that dad and Daniel will love him, but if I’m so confident in it, why are my hands trembling?
I suppose I’m just excited.
“Dad?” I call out into the house. Harry steps in behind me and closes the front door. We both pull our shoes off and pace into the kitchen, my father nowhere in sight.
“Dad?!” I call again, “Dan?”
Suddenly I hear footsteps getting steadily louder, treading quickly down the stairs, and into the kitchen.
“Louis?” my brother shouts from the hallway, “Louis? You there?”
“In here!” I direct. Daniel makes his way into the kitchen.
As soon as he lays eyes on Harry, I know he knows who he is. He gives me a smug grin before coming any closer.
“Well aren’t you going to introduce me?” he says to me cheekily, pointing to Harry.
I light up. He likes Harry. He wants me to introduce him. For real.
“Yeah!” I chirp, perhaps a bit too excited, “Daniel, this is Harry.”
Harry smiles, and shakes Daniel’s hand.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Harry says charmingly, flashing his little dimples. He looked so nice when he did that. It made his eyes perk up, and his teeth all showed. He looked adorable.
“You as well. Louis’ told me so much about you.”
Daniel keeps giving me these tiny glances that I don’t understand. I never told him about Harry. I wonder if he read my journal. The last few entries have been nothing but me raving about Harry. But really, can you blame me? I mean, what’s not to like?
“So…” Daniel adds, creating a bit of an awkward spot. “You two are together?”
Harry turns bright red and swiftly moves to my side. I feel his arm wrap around my waist, tugging me in closer to him.
“Well,” he says shyly, tilting his head down to mine, “if you want to be, Lou.”
I bite my lip, and lean my head into Harry’s shoulder.
