Part Twenty Nine (Harry)
My breath hitches in my throat as I stumble back a bit. I can't fathom any of the feelings that I am feeling right now seeing Liam down there with Louis. To see Louis laughing at something while Liam only smiles. Leigha is stifling a giggle, with her hand raised to her mouth, slightly covering her red cheeks.
Before I can even process what I'm doing, I'm running down the steps, bypassing my parents and Dan and Becca. I'm running and I don't plan on stopping until I get to Louis. I should be the one making him laugh. I should be the one getting his time and attention. I should be the one. He's mine.
I'm out the door, the fresh air bursting into my lungs as I near Louis. He's still laughing, still smiling and all I want to do is just get to him. I want to be the one who is making him feel this way. Not Liam.
"Harry!" Leigha says, announcing my presence to Louis and Liam. Louis smiles apologetically as if he is sorry for being out here with Liam whilst Liam doesn't even turn around. I nod and force a smile in Leigha's direction as I stand protectively by Louis' side. I slip my hand around his waist and tug him slightly in my direction.
"Harry," Louis whispers, gently nudging my side. I didn't care if I seemed possessive or anything else for that matter. I needed to make it known to Liam that Louis was mine since he didn't seem to get the picture from our fight.
"Harry," Liam says gently offering me a warm smile. I can see right through him. He's only trying to be nice because Louis is present. I peeped his game a long time ago. I'm not stupid. I hugged Louis tighter, giving his hip a light squeeze.
"Liam," I seethe, hoping he felt the venom that dripped heavily from my voice.
"How are you?" He asks boldly. I take in his black eye and swollen lip. His right arm is wrapped profusely with bandage just as his knuckles are. He looks pretty beaten up. A wave a guilt rushes through me but I push it away, authority and slight jealousy taking its place almost immediately.
"I should be asking you that," I respond calmly. Louis nudges me in my side and this time I take the chance to look down at him. His blue eyes are hard as he glares at me, silently begging me to be nice. I shake my head in confusion as I return my gaze back to Liam, who is using his good hand to run it through his small quiff.
"I'm okay, could be better," he answers vaguely. I nod again before Louis speaks up.
"Why didn't you respond when I picked up the phone?"
I had completely forgotten about me calling him, sudden panic rising in my throat. I've never lied to Louis before and this certainly didn't seem like the time to start but what was I supposed to say?
Oh yeah I called because I saw you with someone and I wanted to see who it was because I was jealous they were getting your attention and I wasn't but when I found out it was Liam, sudden anger built in me and I had to get down here to snatch you away from him.
I definitely couldn't say that.
He senses that I'm stalling so he begins to rub small circles in my back, a trick I learned he does to calm me down. I would be lying if I said it wasn't working right now.
"I just wanted to talk to you. I hadn't seen you much today and I just wanted to hear your voice," I half lie, trying to mask my face as best as I could.
"Aw Harry." Lou smiles as he hugs me fully. I hug him back tightly, my head fitting perfectly into the crook of his neck. I take in his scent, coconut and cologne: my new favorite smell. Here with Lou, in the middle of the street, I forget everything. He always seemed to have that effect, to make you forget about the world. To just be happy with him. I marvelled at this talent as I hugged him tighter, never wanting to let him go.
