Part 17 (Harry)

Today is the day. First day back at school and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. I’m not nervous for myself though. School came easy to me; I’m nervous about Lou. I knew he was already going to be nervous because that’s just the type of person he is. I wanted, no, I needed Lou to have a good first day because if he didn’t, he wouldn’t want to come back and maybe…just maybe, he’s be upset with me for pushing him to come. I would hate for him to be mad at me. My phone rings breaking me from my never ending thoughts. Lou’s name pops up on the screen and a small smile finds its way to my face.

“Good morning Harry! I just wanted to know if you’d like to walk with me to school? Lou xx”

The smile on my face grows even bigger as I begin to reply.

“Morning Lou and of course I’ll walk with you. I had planned on walking with you anyways. I’ll be over in 10. Harry x”

I slide my phone in my back pocket and take one last look in the mirror. My brown sweater, black ripped jeans and boots seem to be fitting for today’s biting weather. I hope Lou likes my outfit. I grab my backpack off my bed and head out my room. Becca is sitting at the table eating here cereal just like she does every morning. When she sees me, her face lights up.

“Morning Harry!” Becca cheers.

“Good morning, Becs! How’s my favorite girl?” I ruffle her hair a bit and she giggles.

“Stop it Harry, you’ll mess up my hair!” I am guessing she was trying to be serious but the smile never left her face so I know she doesn’t mean it. I look at her unruly curly hair surrounding her small round face as she continues to smile at me. I can’t let her go to school looking like she literally just rolled out of bed. As if she could read my mind, she interjects.

“Harry?”

“Yeah?”

“Do you mind putting my hair in a ponytail or braiding it or something… I just want it out of my face.” Becca pouts as she blows a curl from her forehead.

“Of course, go get me a rubber band.” I laugh.

She comes back with a rubber band and a brush telling me I forgot the most important tool to do hair. I sit and brush her hair into a ponytail as she tells me what she plans to do on her first day of school. Once I finish, she leaps from her chair and runs to the bathroom. The next thing I hear is a clanking sound and a scream.

It’s Becca.

I run to the bathroom to see the brush in the sink and her grinning wide looking in the mirror.

Flabbergasted, I ask her, “Becca what’s wrong?!”

“I love my hair today Harry! Thank you so much!” she squeals as she hugs my leg.

I laugh and hug her back. She finds so much joy in the smallest of things. I admire her so much for this.

“Go get you lunch box and come on. Let me walk you to the bus stop.”

Becca goes to grab her things as I go to put her empty cereal bowl in the sink. I pass by the fridge and see a note. I grab the note and read it once over.

Harry, I had to leave early for work and I won’t be back home ‘til late tonight. Your father has already left for work but he’ll be back this afternoon. Make sure Becca gets to school on time. I love you so much Harry. Have a great first day. Mum xo”

I put the note in the drawer. I wonder what my parents would think of Louis. Would they like him? I mean of course they would. What’s not to like about Lou? He’s literally…perfect. Well..  He’s perfect for me which makes him perfect in my book.  I grab my bag and turn to see Becca is already waiting by the door.
