Quick Note:
Sorry if this part is a bit violent and gruesome. It's a battle scene, so there's bound to be some blood. If you feel uncomfortable reading it, just skip past :)
                              Thanks!

                              PART ELEVEN ~
Alissa wondered round the village square, weaving in and out of the crumbling piles of brick. So far, there had been no sign of any survivors, nor any orcs. A corpse lay in her path every time she turned a corner, and she tried to block out their distressed faces and gazes of terror. She knew she didn't have the heart to leave them like this, but she couldn't waste her strength burying bodies.
Tears sprung to her eyes as she came across a young girl. She'd been stabbed in the gut and was clutching a small teddy. Alissa threw her gaze away from the child and carried on through the remains of a house.
After a while, Alissa heard a shout, followed by a series of low growls that seemed to echo around the village. She immediately leapt up from her crouched position and started sprinting to the source of the cry.
Fili was stood with his back to the human as she arrived, and she saw he was facing several beasts. Wargs. But these were different; their fur was mottled red and brown, and they had a small, patched stump for a tail. Their claws reached out like razors, blackened as if charred from a fire. One of the four growled, showing gleaming white teeth, speckled red with blood. Alissa immediately threw herself back, observing from the shadows.
Fili quickly slid his sword from it's sheath and drew it in front of him, setting himself in a battle stance, ready to attack. The Wargs moved either side of him, and he stumbled back slightly. Doing so, he caught sight of a figure in the shadows and Alissa caught his eye. He gave a slight nod, looking only like a twitch in the eyes of the beasts.
Alissa quietly slid around the crumbling building, being as sly as she could, so as to not be seen. Upon reaching a gap between the next house, she hastily rolled to the other side, being only a blur in the Warg's eyes.
She pressed herself close to the remaining wall, and slowly twisted her head so as to peer through the tiny gaps in the crumbling wall. The Wargs' attention were solely on the dwarf; she still had the element of surprise.
Alissa waited with her back pressed against the wall for a few moments, waiting for the battle to begin. As soon as she heard the first battle cry and clang of a sword, she leapt from her position, sliding out her daggers as she did so, and sliced her blades down onto the first Warg she laid eyes on.
The beast twisted it'a head to face Alissa as she brought her daggers down into the Warg's back. It arched in pain and let out a distressed howl. Then, spinning round, she sliced her blades into it's neck. Blood stained her daggers as she roughly pulled them out and the beast collapsed to the floor. Fili was also close to gaining a victory. He stuck his sword into the head of the Warg he was facing; directly between the eyes, and quickly yanked the blade from the beast, slicing it down it's tough body, and sending blood spurting into the air like a crimson flame.
Two Wargs were left, and Fili signalled for Alissa to take on the one to his left. She nodded and leapt forward, as light on her feet as an elf may be. She drew her daggers in front of her and sent a series of slashes in the direction of the Warg. The wolf howled in pain and jerked its paw in the direction of the human. The sharp claws caught her in the stomach and she was sent hurtling backwards. Her body crashed into the crumbling wall behind her, sending clouds of dust swirling about her.
She grunted in pain and slowly dragged herself up from the mound of rubble.
Fili saw the human get thrown through the air and swore loudly, quickly turning his attention back to his opponent. He sent a heavy blow in the direction of the wolf and it collapsed, still breathing shallowly. He brought his sword down on it's head and it's heart stopped altogether.
He jerked his blade out of the Warg and sprinted over to the human.
Alissa clutched her stomach in pain. She drew her hand away and saw it was covered in blood. Damn. She looked up and saw the Warg slowly prowling towards her, it's mouth slowly opening into a grotesque snarl.
Her daggers lay some metres away from her, caught in the dusty pile of bricks. As the Warg came forward, she slowly stumbled backwards, unable to see where the dwarf was.
Alissa pressed her back against the wall, her heart thumping wildly and her vision starting to go fuzzy. The Warg suddenly opened it's vast mouth mouth and Alissa's eyes widened in horror as a flame erupted in the back of it's throat. Something smacked into her and pushed her to the ground just as the beast let out a stinging jet of flame.
Fili was covering Alissa's head and body with his own, drawing his cloak around them to protect themselves from the heat radiating off the wolf. Alissa's head suddenly thumped to the ground and the dwarf knew she had passed out.
