Part Sixteen

A/N: This is going to be a really short part as its just a quick view from Kili! Yes, he's our mystery figure if you hadn't got that! :O

PART SIXTEEN ~

Kili watched intently, concealing himself amongst the shadows of the trees. His brother was leaning against the tree directly in front of him and Alissa, the human, was leaning against another, opposite. His heart lurched in his chest to see her beautiful figure again. How he had missed her sweet smile and fresh aroma.

He felt a longing to be holding her again, and he wanted nothing more than to jump out of the trees and plant a kiss on those delicate lips.

But something was holding him back, and that's why he was hesitating, waiting, watching in the darkness, out of view.

Fili let out a chuckle, attracting Alissa's attention. Then his brother started telling a somewhat embarrassing story of his childhood to the girl Kili himself had feelings for.

Kili felt his blood boiling in anger, and he tried to simmer himself down. He took deep breaths and continued watching the pair.

Alissa's eyes lit up in amusement and a light giggle escaped her mouth. She looked happy, content. Maybe she didn't need him. Or want him at all. Maybe that's why she left so abruptly. Or was it to see if Fili was okay? For here she was, with the one whom she desired to find. Maybe she did think he was a coward, and thought she would have preferred the company of his older brother.

Kili slowly backed away from the couple, a sense of anger and loneliness hitting him hard in the gut.

A twig snapped underfoot and Fili suddenly became alert, his head inclined toward the noise. Alissa was reaching for her daggers, but Kili stood motionless, and his brother eventually waved it away.

Kili had made his decision. He had seen his brother and Alissa, he knew they were alright. Now it was time to leave. They didn't need him; they could take care of themselves. Fili seemed to be able to take care of Alissa, anyway. Maybe that's what she wanted.

He slowly backed away from the scene, shrinking back into the darkness and sprinted off into the entwined maze of trees, his heart thumping painfully against her chest and his head spinning as he tried to process all that he had seen.
