It was the next day that I'd decided to drag Billie, Mike and Tre down to Christie Road. I wouldn't tell them where specifically though.
The reason, you might ask? It meant something to them. I know it did.
"Why are you even bringing us down here?" Mike asked.
"Because! Billie and Tre are both out of school, and for what reason? To be in this goddamn band, which means something to you too, am I wrong?"
"I-"
"Exactly!" I said, looking at the three of them. "It means the world to all three of you! That's why two thirds of you quit school to pursue it. Sitting at home isn't the way to do that."
"But why did you bring us here?" Mike asked. "What is that gonna do?"
"If you would let me get to that," I said, continuing on as he rolled his eyes playfully. Billie didn't look any less confused as before.
"You know what else means something to you? This place. Christie Road. That's why you always hang out here all the time and that's why you've been hanging out here for years. I know everything you've done here. Billie spilled all. And you know what? You're gonna write a song, and you're gonna write it right fucking now, and I'm gonna help!"
I went into Billie's rusted car and ripped a notebook from the pocket behind the seat along with a pen, chucking it onto the rocks. Billie picked it up, probably scared off his ass because he'd never seen me so determined in all the months we've known eachother.
"What does this place mean to you?" I said. "How many things have happened here?"
"Well," Billie started. "I got broken up with by Erika here.. had a bad trip on acid.. got chased by police dogs... and skinheads.."
"No! That's not what I meant," I said. "The important shit!"
Finally, something shifted in his eyes. The gears were turning now.
"Staring out of my window," he said. "Watching the cars go rolling by..."
Tre and Mike both cocked an eyebrow, to which I smirked as Billie kept scribbling into the notebook. Finally the two other boys went to join him, sticking their noses into the paper. I stood afar, watching.
"My friends are gone, I've got nothing to doooo..." Tre sang.
"So I sit here patiently... watching the clock tick so slowly... gotta get away.."
"Or my brains will explode," Billie sang.
I layed across the hood of the car, continuing the song. "Give me something to do to kill some time... take me to that place that I call home."
"Take away the strains of being lonely.. Take me to the tracks at Christie Road."
All three of them paused, searching for something to keep stringing them along.
"See the hills from afar," Mike said.
Finally, I got up on the hood, gazing down at them. "Standing on my beat up car... the sun went down, and the night fills the sky."
"Now I feel like me once again.. as the train comes rolling in...."
And we went on, and on, and on. I'd done it!
And you know what? This was only the beginning. The songs would go on and on and on forever.
