Blue Heart

Chapter 3

After listening to the nurse screaming out for the doctor, my heart rate amplified.

I saw the doctor rushing inside the ICU and the nurse closed the door behind her.
I really wanted to see what happened to grandma, but I was left with no choice except  waiting.

"Hey,stay cool, everything's going to be alright!" Stephen said and gave a light pat on my shoulder.

I didn't reply to him,I was just staring at the door of the ICU.My insights were telling me, something isn't fine.

After a few minutes ,the doctor finally opened the door and came out but with a critical expression on his face.

"Is everything alright, doctor?" I asked as I moved towards him and Stephen followed me.

"I'm afraid, it's not." The doctor replied with a traceable discontent in his voice.

"Wh-what happened? You said she's out of danger!" I demanded.

"I thought it was a heart attack ,but it is something else,It is called Cyanosis.I'm afraid, she's developing the symptoms are giving this manifestation ." The doctor explained.

[a/n: Cyanosis is defined as the bluish or purplish discolouration of the skin or mucous membranes due to the tissues near the skin surface having low oxygen saturation.]

" C-cyanosis? Isn't that disease common in infants? How did grandma happen to develop it?" I asked

" You are right,we are trying to figure out the cause,maybe it appeared due to heart attack, but we're still working on it, don't worry"  He said and walked out to check other patients.

"That's a bit weird," Stephen said from behind.

"It is,indeed!" Ralph,who was standing silent till now and was listening to our conversation, replied

"I don't understand, grandma was so fine this morning, how did all this happen?" I asked looking at both of them.

"I think this case is pretty critical, but we need to wait for the results." Stephen replied.

"I have to attend the seminar, I really feel sorry for your grandmother, Acira,but  please excuse me." Ralph said.

"Yeah,sure.Both of you can leave." I replied.

"Um,I think, I should stay here," Stephen said and looked towards me as if he was asking for my permission.

"You can, if you want to.." I answered.

"Okay,so you stay here, Stephen. I'll be back."   Ralph said and left.

Stephen asked me to have a seat and get myself comfortable, we both sat down on the bench.

"When did all this happen exactly?" He questioned

" She went into the kitchen to bring more muffins for me and..."

"Muffins?!" Stephen asked cutting me short.

" Um,yeah,I like muffins." I said

He smiled gently and said "Well,a new information, I gotta note that down."

I gave a light smile back at his reply.He was about to ask me something else before we heard a strident noise which came from the ICU.

We both got up and a staff of the hospital immediately opened the door to check the source of the sound.

"Holy crap!" He exclaimed.

We both came closer to the door to see what has happened. We saw that the nurse who was attending the patient (my grandmother) was lying on the floor. Her fingers and nails were appearing bluish.

"What on earth has happened here?" Stephen said in a stunned voice.
