Hey frens,
Theres a trigger warning on this for self harm. I wrote this cuz i was thinking about how id explain to my children (if i make it that far in life, which i doubt ) what all my scars are cuz they're everywhere.

You were tidying up around the house when your 11 year old daughter comes over to you

"Mum" she says sweetly, playing with the hem of her shirt

"Yeah honey" you say

"what are those?" She asks, pointing to the faint pink and white lines on your wrists and arms

"Oh those" you say, forcing a smile "I got them when I was a kid"

"How?" She asks. So damn innocent. So damn unaw5

You heart sank a little "I oh, uh I fell out of a tree"

"Oh so you also got them on your legs too from the tree?"

"Yeah, it was a very big spikey tree, why baby?"

"Because one of my friends brothers has them too and he won't tell me how he got them"

"Oh baby, he must've fallen out of a tree too, now stop asking him" you felt sympathetic for the boy. Not everyone wants to talk about it.

"Ok thanks mum"

"Which friend is it?" You ask

"Lilith" she smiles and skips off

"Hey babe" Devin says as you lie down next to him in bed later that night

"Hey" you sigh

"Is something bothering you, you seem upset?" He asks, wrapping an arm around you and placing his head on your chest

"Uh yeah but just, oh I don't know, I'm kinda worried about things I guess"

"Come here and tell Ghostie all about it" he says holding his arms out for you to cuddle him

"I'm worried about my past and how one day I'm gonna have to tell y/d/n about it, about who I was and what I did"

"Why you worried now, it's never bothered you before?"

"Well she asked me about my uh-" you breathe in a sharp breath and exhale "my scars"

Devin sighs "Aww baby" he runs his hand reassuringly down your back "what did you say?"

"I told her I got them from falling out of a big tree, because she asked how I got them on my legs too, and then I asked her why she wanted to know and then she told me one of her friends brothers has them and he won't tell her how he got them. I told her that he fell out of a tree too and to stop asking him." You explain the story of earlier in the day to him

"Hey y/n, what you can tell her is that you had to deal with a bad guy, a really bad guy, and these are to prove that you survived and you beat the bad guy. They're your battle scars. They prove that your strong and you can fight, and they show that you won your fight"

You hesitate for a moment before speaking "Not quite won, Dev, still trying to win, he's still there you know sometimes, but I guess he lives in all of us, this bad guy, sometimes he leaves the person but sometimes he stays. And he's staying with me and he's bringing back my past. I think I'm going to need help again" you admit

"Do you think you need to see someone again?" He gives a concerned look

"Not yet. I have you" you say more to assure yourself rather than Devin

"If it gets worse, you gotta promise me you're gonna tell me, and I'll organize something right away ok babe" he says

"I promise" you say and crack a smile

"That's it, there's that beautiful smile now give me a kiss" he smiles,you give him a quick passionate kiss

"You know next week I'll be 10 years clean" you say proudly

"And I am so proud of you for that. I was proud if you when you were one day clean. When you were two weeks clean, hell when you were a month clean I was proud, when you were three years clean. Even when you weren't clean I was proud if you because you were still here and still fighting" he says, placing a kiss on your forehead

"Don't worry, I'm gonna stay alive for our little girl and for you. And for everyone who looks up to my story. And especially for depression. I'm telling it to get fucked!"

"That's the spirit y/n!" He tackles you onto the bed in a tight hug

"You know what" you say

"What?"

"Y/d/n said it was Lilith's older brother, he's usually the one who drops her around for play dates, right?" You ask

"Yeah" Ghost nods, kissing you neck

"Well, I wanna talk to him and tell him it's all gonna work out" you say

"Whatever makes you feel good baby"

"Thanks Devin" you say, giving him another kiss

"I love you babygirl"

"I love you too Dev"

"Can we fuck?"

"Y/d/n is probably still awake!"

"When she's asleep?"

"Fine" you chuckle

"Right I'm gonna get her to sleep be right back"
