"Lydia?" A nurse smiled as she entered the room with a wheelchair. "We can take you to see your friend now."

It had been almost three hours since Lydia had been admitted to the hospital, and the doctors managed to slow the labour dramatically. They predicted that it would be at least another twenty four hours until the delivery.

Lydia clapped her hands together in excitement. "Thank you!"

The nurse and Stiles helped her into the wheelchair, careful to make sure her IV's stayed close by. Stiles trailed behind as they strolled down the halls. About three minutes later, they arrived outside Allison's room.

The nurse knocked on the open door.

"Come in!" Allison's familiar voice called out. This event was kept a surprise for her, although Scott was in on it.

She caught glimpse of Lydia as they sauntered into the room. She instantly gasped in shock.

"Lyds!" She exclaimed.

"Surprise!" She smiled.

She was wheeled to the bedside where she leaned on Allison's shoulder, admiring the baby in her arms.

"What's his name?" She asked eagerly. "Stiles wouldn't tell me."

"Asher James McCall." She grinned, brushing her index finger over her son's forehead.

"That's such a great name. He's adorable!" She whispered, becoming a bit teary eyed.

Meanwhile, Scott and Stiles shared a hug in the corner of the room.

"So, fatherhood, huh?" Stiles sighed. He couldn't believe it. It felt as though they were immature fourteen year olds running around Beacon Hills just yesterday.

"Yeah. It's insane, but I'm excited." Scott smiled as he admired his little family. "Oh I almost forgot! Allison, shall we ask?"

She nodded happily.

"Alright, Stiles," he smiled, placing a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Lydia already has the slot as godmother, so we were wondering if you would do the honour of being Asher's godfather, now that you and Lydia are on good terms."

"Are you serious?" Stiles grinned. He was overwhelmed with joy. He remembered being upset when Scott and Allison were forced to pick Matt. "Of course!"

As Scott and Allison applauded joyfully, Stiles caught a glimpse of Lydia. The world felt as if it shifted into slow motion as they admired each other. Lydia pressed her lips together, trying to hold back a massive smile. Stiles wasn't holding back- he finally saw some hope again. He just hoped she felt the same.

The four friends spent about an hour together, holding Asher and talking. Allison and Scott asked Lydia lots of questions about the baby, and somehow, she felt the most calm she had all day. Sadly, they had to say goodbye when the nurse came to take Lydia back to her room.

"Call me later!" Allison said as Lydia and Stiles were about to leave.

"For sure. Love you guys!"

"Stiles, you can go home if you want. You've been a great help, but you have your own life now." Lydia reassured him after a couple hours of sitting around her room.

"I'm not leaving, Lyds," he spoke. "Not again."

"Alright, but just know that you can." She said. "Anyway, where have you been for the past little bit?"

"About an hour away from Scott and Allison's with a friend. He got me a temporary job. Really, I've only been staying there to give you some space."

"What? Why?" She asked, surprised by his answer. She thought he left to get away from her, to have his own life apart from her.

"After everything that happened. I didn't want to stress you out."

What she hadn't told him was that his absence stressed her out even more, and the doctors thought that contributed to the early labour along with her family history of premature babies.

"Will you promise me something?"

"Sure."

"Although it's none of my business, can you promise that you'll never leave without even a note to me? I just get really worried about you."

He blushed slightly, loving how concerned she was. "Of course I won't, I'm never gonna leave again. I'm sorry that I did."

He almost said it in that moment. He almost screamed "I'm so in love with you" so the entire world could hear. Obviously, he didn't.

She spent the rest of the evening, and the next morning reading as much of her final parenting book as possible. Luckily, she had started weeks earlier was a fast reader.

Stiles even read the book containing the basics after realizing he was going over his data bill. He was going to be a part of Asher's life anyway, and he hoped that one day he'd be a huge part of Lydia's baby's life.

Around two in the afternoon, the day after arriving at the hospital, Lydia's labour was picking up again. The doctors told her to prepare as it wouldn't be long. Stiles was right by her side the entire time, holding her hand when the pain was overwhelming, helping her get up to walk around the room, and grabbing her snacks from downstairs. She really wasn't sure what she would have done without him there.

Once evening arrived, it was time to start pushing. Lydia used all her fear and anxiety and turned it into strength. She gripped onto Stiles' hand the entire time. He'd brush his open hand over her forehead every so often to remind her that he was there.

"You're doing great, Lyds." He'd beam. He couldn't deny that he was proud of how far she'd come in the past few months.

Within a couple hours, the baby arrived into the world, sending a wave of relief through Lydia's body. She breathed heavily, beads of sweat rolling down her forehead as tears of joy fogged her vision.

"I'm so proud of you," Stiles whispered. "You did it."

It took a moment for Lydia to realize that she didn't hear a cry and there were multiple doctors rushing around the room to help her baby.

"What is it?" She shouted in horror. "What's happening? Please!"

No answer. They were all too busy to even notice her cries of help. She gripped onto Stiles' forearm, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Please. Please." Was all she could manage to gasp.

She turned her head away, allowing it to rest into his chest as he wrapped his other arm over her collarbone, his palm pressed to her cheek. He felt paralyzed as he observed the frantic doctors.

Maybe he wouldn't be a part of this baby's life after all.
