'Cause I know I can treat you better
than he canThird person's pov:
Stiles passed Lydia his cell phone with shaky hands- the whole event had made him incredibly anxious. Seeing the strawberry blonde, the woman he loved with every piece of his heart, so hurt and vulnerable made him furious towards Matt. The only thing he could wish for was to have that man locked up for the rest of his life, but unfortunately, that was unlikely.
Lydia slowly typed three numbers on the keypad, her thumb hovering above the call button. Allison notices her best friend's hesitance, and rests a hand on her shoulder.
"You can do this, Lyds. I know you can."
The room was silent- the four friends focusing on their breathing, as they all had thoughts rushing through their brains, but none of them really knew what to say. Allison was horrified that Lydia had been going through this alone, all this time. Stiles was hoping that his girlfriend would be okay after all of the pain she'd been through, and Scott was simply speechless. He'd known Lydia to be strong, and independent. In all of their years of friendship, he'd seen her cry twice, once over a "bad" mark on a test in high school, and after graduation, so this was an unfamiliar moment for the boy.
Trying her best not to think about it, Lydia forced herself to tap the little button, and before she knew it, she was holding the phone to her ear.
"911, what's your emergency?" A woman asks on the other side of the call.
She can't even find the words to answer the call-taker.
"911." She repeats, a bit louder.
"Sorry, sorry. My ex-fiancé just tracked me down and beat me before running away. I just... Don't feel safe knowing he's still out there." Lydia mutters, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Alright, are you seriously injured?"
"Not seriously- I don't think I need a paramedic."
"It's best to check. Are you alone?"
"No, I'm with three of my friends. We're here on vacation."
The operator asks a few more questions, and within minutes, a police officer and paramedic arrive at the beach house.
Lydia sits in the ambulance with Stiles, and Scott surrounding her as a paramedic checks her. Allison, on the other hand, was being questioned by police as a witness.
"Alright, you seem to have a broken rib, so we'll take you to the hospital once the police give us the 'OK'." The paramedic informs her, passing her a wrapped ice pack. "Unfortunately, there's not much you can do other than resting and icing for six weeks."
She nods, placing the ice onto her side as she watches Allison return to the group.
"Lydia, could I talk to you now?" The female officer asks.
"Of course."
Lydia follows the dark haired woman away from the group of friends, after insisting to Stiles that she was fine.
"So, tell me everything that happened in detail, please. Start from the beginning."
Lydia explains the story to her, trying her best to hold it together. When she realizes she's told the entire thing without pausing, or breaking down, she feels proud of herself.
"Lydia, I promise we're going to find him."
"Thank you."
"No, thank you for answering my questions. You're free to go, we'll be in touch."
Lydia trudges over to the ambulance once again, with the officer following behind her.
"Sir, can I talk with you now, please?" She asks Stiles.
"Alright, are we free to take her to the hospital, officer?" The male paramedic asks.
"Yep."
"Oh, I uh- I should really go with her." Stiles says, scratching the back of his neck.
"Stiles, I have a broken rib, I'll be fine."
"I'll go with her." Allison volunteers.
"Okay... Text me later." He says hesitantly.
"Promise."
The two girls disappear into the back of the vehicle, and Scott and Stiles watch as they pull out of the driveway, and down the street, the sound of a siren slowly getting softer and softer.
~
Just a couple broken ribs, but they were causing Lydia a tremendous amount of pain. She had been in shock days ago, but now, they hurt almost as much as her heart had the day Stiles and her stopped talking. She had been laying on the couch for the past two days- Doctor's orders. The group of friends had been forced to extend their stay in Miami, since Matt still hadn't been found, and it would be incredibly uncomfortable for Lydia to travel at the moment. This fun-filled trip was quickly turning into a disaster.
Lydia had been having nightmares of Matt coming back and killing them. She wouldn't admit it, but she was terrified to be let anyone out of her sight. Stiles always made sure she was okay, to which she would respond "of course. Go to the beach, I'll be perfectly fine.", but she wanted to beg him to stay. She just knew it was wrong.
Finally, over 48 hours since the police showed up, her cell phone rang. Lydia basically jumped for the device, which she quickly discovered was a terrible idea. She cried out in pain as Scott rushed over.
"I'll get it, lie back down."
He passed her the phone, and she held it to her ear.
"Hello?"
"Hi, I'm from the Miami Police Department. I'm looking to speak with Ms. Lydia Martin." A man said on the other side of the line.
"That's me."
"Oh, good morning! I'm calling to inform you that we have located Matt and he is being brought into custody as we speak."
A wave of emotions fills her body. "Thank you. Thank you so much." Is all she can say.
"We will speak soon. Have a nice day, Ms. Martin."
"You too."
