Lydia paced around the room, hands pressed against her temples. "I don't even have any furniture for her nursery!" She stressed.

"Lyds, I know you get to go home tomorrow, but Brianna's staying here for a lot longer," Stiles said sleepily. It was early in the morning, and he woke up to find her like this.

"You know me, though. I need it ready as soon as possible," Lydia Martin was always prepared. "I don't even have a crib. I'm sitting in this room when I should be shopping and it's driving me insane."

Stiles chuckled a bit, causing her to give him an annoyed glare. He cleared his throat, re-positioning himself in his seat.

A nurse entered the room, and Lydia took a step towards the blonde-haired man. "Can't I just go home today, please? I feel fine!" She begged.

"Sorry, Miss Martin, not until tomorrow."

She groaned dramatically, throwing her hands into the air before making her way back to the bed where she snuggled in under the blanket. Her mother bounced into the room joyfully, a fruit cup and bottle of water in hand. She passed them to her daughter, insisting that she eats healthy. Her mother always did this when she visited. Lydia was frustrated, but definitely not surprised.

"Thanks, mom." She smiled as Natalie placed a kiss on her cheek.

"I stopped by the NICU to see Brianna this morning. She's so adorable, and I'm not only saying that as her grandma," She beamed.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I have to take some blood from Lydia." The young nurse muttered in the background.

"Oh yes, of course. I'm sorry." Natalie said, moving to the side.

As he stood by the side of the bed preparing Lydia's arm, Natalie caught her attention, mouthing "He's cute!"

Lydia rolled her eyes, hoping her mother would just leave the room for a couple of hours. Although she appreciated her being here, she could only handle her for so long.

"Uh yeah, I'm just gonna-" Stiles stuttered, re-adjusting his head to face the wall. "Blood, needles, and I don't make a good combination." He mentioned.

As the nurse was about to draw the blood, Natalie piped up, causing him to stop himself. "I'm sorry, but are you single? You see-"

"Mom!" Lydia exclaimed in embarrassment, her cheeks noticeably burning up. "Can you please go somewhere- anywhere else?"

"Why don't we go get a crib?" Stiles suggested. When Lydia gave him an untrusting look, he sighed. "We'll make sure you approve, don't you worry."

At this point, she didn't care. She just needed her mother out of her hair for more than five minutes. "Yes, okay. See you two later!"

Stiles guided Natalie towards the door, and Lydia whispered "Thank you" as he lingered behind.

After some searching on the internet and a fifteen-minute drive, Stiles and Ms. Martin arrived at a quaint, quiet boutique in a shopping district. As they entered the shop, a bell rang above their head's, catching the attention of two saleswomen. They offered their assistance, but Natalie declined politely, leaving the two of them to wander the store together.

"Has Lydia picked a wall colour yet? Do you know?" She asked Stiles as she made her way to a group of cribs.

"I have no idea. I don't even know her plans."

"Well, it's time to give her a call then. Would you be a doll and FaceTime her for me?" She flashed him a smile before re-directing her attention to the fabric swatches.

Within moments, a peaceful-looked Lydia appeared on his screen.

"Hey. I see you look much more relaxed than when we left." Stiles chuckled, admiring the strawberry blonde wrapped up in a blanket with the hood of her sweater over her head.

"I am indeed." She sighed calmly. "How's it going?"

He flipped the camera to show her mother focusing on swatches.

"Say hi to Lydia," Stiles says, grabbing her attention.

"Hi, honey!" She exclaims, waving her hand. "Are you thinking checkered fabric or paisley?"

The look of disgust on her face was priceless. "None of the above."

Stiles made his way to the swatches, glancing at the hundreds of patterns and colours.

"How about this lavender and grey zig zag print?" He suggested, putting on a phony accent to mock the posh name.

"Actually, I love that! It's perfect." She grinned as he showed her his selection.

They spent a while choosing furniture and colour schemes until Lydia was overjoyed with the choices. They picked out throw pillows, a crib, decorations, and more. Somehow, even though they were apart, they felt more connected than ever.

Later, after Stiles had dropped the furniture off at Scott and Allison's house and Natalie returned to her hotel, he made his way back to the hospital. It was almost starting to feel like home, given the fact that he hadn't slept anywhere else in days. He knocked on Lydia's door lightly before letting himself in. He passed her the package of hair elastics he'd picked up at the drugstore on his way there.

"I know you were complaining about not having any, so I just stopped and got them." He explained as she giggled. "What? Are they okay?"

"They're colourful." He'd picked out the assorted neon colours. "I love them, though. I can feel like a kid again."

"They'll look cute on you."

She threw her hair into a messy bun on top of her head as he relaxed into his plastic chair in the corner of the room.

"Only one more day until you can finally sleep in a real bed." She reminded him.

"Sounds like heaven."

"Yeah. It's just gonna be really weird to leave Brianna here." She frowned.

"She'll be home before you know it. Don't worry, I'll come with you to visit if you want." He offered. "It'll give you time to figure living arrangements out, anyway."

"You're right. I'll enjoy the full nights of sleep. They won't last much longer."

He grabbed a parenting book from her bedside table. "Can I read this in the meantime?"

"Of course, but you don't need to."

"I didn't grow up with any younger family, so I want to learn. Plus, maybe it'll come in handy for your sleepless nights while you're still here." He said, flipping to the first page.

And in that moment, she knew. She knew that Stiles Stilinski was the missing part of her puzzle.
