"War never changes... Got that right." I quote, standing in front of the mirror getting ready.
I trim up my goatee and mustache, which is a deep, brick-red color. I comb back my short, red hair and train it into staying spiked up, which painstakingly, takes me about 45 minutes. As I'm finishing up, my lovely wife, Nora walks in.
"You're going to excel at the meeting today, hun. You're a natural." She tells me as I'm working on the finishing touches.
As I finish preparing, I step away and let her have the mirror. I walk out of the bathroom and head towards the kitchen. However, my son's whining catches my attention, which in turn causes Nora to step out of the bathroom.
"I got him dear, go get yourself some breakfast, Codsworth has been extra busy this morning."
I spin the rocket ship mobile above his crib before making my way back to the kitchen.
"Ah, good morning sir. Looking wonderful on this bright, sunny morning. Now I know you Don't like coffee, so I took the liberty of going and picking up some of that milk you always request. And I made you some nice chocolate milk today." Codsworth said scurrying around the kitchen.
" Thank you Codsworth, and I see you got the mail today, too. Anything interesting?" I ask, as I pick up the newspaper.
" Just your GI benefits letter, on time this time, I might add. And a small package for your son, Shaun, sir." Codsworth replied.
My face lit up as I turned to the box at the end of the counter. It arrived today, my son's new mobile finally came in. I immediately tore the box open and began assembling the new mobile. This one is voice sensitive, it responds to the whine or cry of Shaun and automatically starts playing. I go and install it on Shaun's crib, who is staring at me with amusement.
Just as I finish installing the mobile, the doorbell rings. I answer the door, while Nora is watching the TV. ' I never liked that thing.' I thought to myself. There was a middle-aged man standing at the door with a vault-tec badge, but no name on it.
"Can... I help you?" I asked, turning my attention away from the TV.
" Good morning sir, I'm with the vault-tec services and I'm going door to door to do some final checking a for the local vault, Vault 111, and you are the last name... Well, the only family I haven't finalized yet. I'm here to inform you that you and your family have been selected, seeing as your rank in the military was just under our country's generals, to enter the vault upon nuclear annihilation. If I could have just a few minutes of your time, we could get your paperwork signed and finalized." The man replied.
I stood there for a moment, puzzled. The government never informed me of a vault, especially one being close by. But with the recent reports running across the news, I quickly take the paperwork and sign it.
" Thank you, sir. I'll get this to vault-tec right away." The man said, before running off.
"O....kay then?!" I say, as I close the door.
