Kaya pov:
"Up you go!" I said as I lifted the cleanly dusted blanket and spread it over Lord Sil's bed.
I smoothened out the creases that had formed at the foot of the bed and I evened out the length of the blanket that fell on either side of the bed. I fluffed up the pillows and set them against the headboard. The satin drapes that fell from the canopy of the bed and till the floor were uneven so I tugged at them to set them equally as well while making sure that the ties that held them to the bed posts didn't loosen.
I stepped away from the bed and put my hands on my hips as I looked over the bed. Giving a nod in satisfaction at my handiwork, I walked to the clothes that had been hung on the backrest of the lounge chairs on the other side of the room. I put the coat in a hanger and put it inside the wardrobe and I dumped the rest of the clothes into the laundry basket.
I decided to clean up the desk next. There weren't many sheets there today but a few books had been scattered on the desk and needed to be cleared up. Two of them were open and I reached out to them to see what their contents were. It was mostly about strategic public finance management as well as executing and controlling the budget in any trade guild, town or domain. Reading through it was interesting and easy to understand but I'm sure the execution part was much more difficult.
As I read through a bit of the book, my thoughts floated off to the discussion I had had with Theo a few days ago. I wanted to know the reason behind Lord Sil's hostile behavior towards his brother and I had asked him about it. Theo too had agreed that since I was living here and would be here for a long time, I had to know details, rumors and other things that would help me stay safe and aware during my time in the castle. We had talked for a long time, probably even after midnight.
The things I had heard from him were not just surprising but also made me see Lord Sil in a completely different perspective. It made me realize that every single person had secrets they wanted to hide and reasons for the personality they had.
>>Flashback
"I'm sure you know that Lord Sil is the Absolute Lord, right?" Theo asked first before he could begin with answering the question I had asked him.
I nodded, not breaking eye contact with him. "Yeah, I've heard that fact several times now. It means he's the strongest of all the Supreme Lords, right?"
"That's right. He is the strongest of all the Supreme Lords. In general, the lord of the Sterling Family is considered the Absolute Lord because the Wolf Beast Clan is the strongest of all the Beast Clans that exist. But Lord Sil is....different. His power is at a level no other Supreme has ever had and he is a prodigy. His intelligence, his analytical skills, his proficiency in sword fighting as well as the raw power he has because of his beast side is probably two or three times more than any other Supreme Lord." Theo explained. "That's why he needs a very special type of blood to fuel his power. Up until now, he never had an Art of his own – he changed the human he drank blood from every time in hopes of finding one that could give him the power and internal balance he needed. But now that you're here, he finally has what can complete him."
"Internal balance? What do you mean by that?" I pressed, finding that detail important.
"This isn't a rumor but a fact that everyone in the Sterling Family as well as the other Royal Beast Families knows. Lord Sil showed signs of being extremely powerful even as an infant. Powers that Supremes took years of training to control and develop was nothing more than child's play to Lord Sil. But when he turned six, he fell very sick. He developed a terrible fever which didn't go no matter what medicines he took or no matter how much blood he drank. His power fell drastically too." Theo was frowning as he spoke. "Only after drinking a secret elixir that, as the rumors go, has been passed down through the generations of the Sterling Family, was Lord Sil's conditions able to stabilize."
