|Colton|
What confused me at first was her honesty. I thought she was being sarcastic, until I actually saw the reality behind her story. I was related to the reason she had become this person. At seven. I was only seven when this happened to her. I always thought my world was horrible, until I met Shadow. She killed her parents, listened to her sister's murder, fought to kill a person who didn't deserve to die. Because of my father she can't feel anything. No pain, no suffering, no grief for her sister. My life was merely a fairy tale compared to hers. To fight for survival, for revenge, for righteousness. I was a horrible person for not realizing her pain before this.
"Would you please say something?!" she shouts across the table. "I literally just told you I kill people for a living! That I can't feel anything! That I can't live without killing the King!" She doesn't look like her normal self. She returned to her defensive side.
"Shad. I....I... I'm sorry," I say reaching for her. She leans in and I wrap my arms around her.
"How can you love someone as bad as me?" she whispers.
"Because, I don't care what you are. All that matters is what you are, human. We all are bad deep down. Somewhere I'm like my father, just like you are like Ali. You try to act tough, but I already knew that you were. The reason I love you is because you're not like that on the inside," I whisper back.
"Colton Lucas Foster, you brought the light in me. I always thought I was complete darkness, and I can't believe I'm saying this but... I actually enjoyed myself," she says breaking out of my arms. The cold returns where she was laying.
"I did too. It's been a while since I met someone like you, I feel alive again," I smile. The clock tower chimes in the distance. It's been a day. It's all over. I'm going to lose her again.
She looks at me in disappointment, she might actually stay.
"Colton. I'm sorry but I have to go. My people need me," she says as I look down in disappointment.
"I hope you'll keep our deal," I whisper sadly.
"I'll see you at the Prince's Suitor Ball, pretty boy," I hear her laugh and when I look up. She's gone. I get another chance. To make her love me. One last chance.
