Chapter 2

"You know, to actually learn Herbology, you have to be on time," Bea mumbled, not even looking up from her notes when she heard James pull the chair out across from her.

"Sorry," he mumbled, eyeing the multiple notes spread across the desk, "we got caught up with Snivellus."

"Severus," Bea corrected, setting down her sugar quill as she looked up at him, her eyebrow raised suddenly at the leaves in his hair, "where the bloody hell were you?"

"Wha-" he was cut off when Bea pushed herself forward, pulling the leaves from his hair with an odd look of slight judgment evident on her features, "Oh, thanks."

"No problem," Bea muttered, sitting the leaves away from them, "now, where were you?"

"Why does it matter?"

"Was Remus with you?" she asked, leaning her chin on her hand as she awaited his answer.

"Well," James trailed off, watching her eyes narrow ever so slightly and finally nodded, "yes he was."

"Then it matters."

"Fine, we were in the forbidden forest," James shrugged.

"Why?" Bea asked, her eyes widened ever so slightly, "that's dangerous."

"I'm aware," James grumbled, "Snivellus told us that Evans was trapped in there so we followed him, for Evans, not him, and he trapped us there, bloody twat."

"That's not very nice," Bea noted, frowning as she gathered up her notes, "okay, so let's start with Incendio, you need that for owls."

"Isn't that fire or something?" James asked, taking off his glasses to wipe them quickly, squinting as he done so.

"Your glasses are broken," Bea gestured to the black framed glasses in the boy's hand, a slight crack in the glass and a break on the bridge, "and yes, it is, well done."

"Oh, bloody hell," James grumbled, putting his glasses back on, at first, he thought the slight crack in the lens was just a mark, but seeing it clearer it made more sense that the lens had broken.

With a sigh, Bea picked up her wand, pointing it at James and muttering, "Oculus reparo," whilst tapping the bridge of his glasses.

"Thanks," James grinned, watching the girl in front of her it was safe to say that she was completely uninterested in the task at hand, she had a notebook beside her which she was writing furiously in, occasionally muttering under her breath when she had to dip her quill into more ink.

"Do you know if Remus has any pens?" asked Bea, getting slightly irritated with the rising noise in the library, students scattered around them, chatting loudly, and annoyingly whilst Bea wanted nothing more than for the place to be quiet.

She wondered where the librarian was.

"Pens?" James repeated, his eyebrow raised at the sudden question.

"Never mind," she grumbled, her head bowing once again as she wrote, occasionally peering at her notes, and then soon, with her head still trained on the notebook did she ask, "what is Incendio for?"

"Uh," James stuttered slightly, "to make fire?"

"Well yes," Bea nodded, "but what plants to do with herbology does it help with?"

"I-I," James glanced around him, suddenly coming to the realisation that he really should focus more on Herbology.

"This is taught in second year, James," Bea sighed, shaking her head slightly, "do you know anything?"
