Blackness surrounded me. I felt cold and alone. Something seemed as if it were missing, but I couldn't figure out what. Carefully, I tried to stand. The closest thing I could get to balance was on all fours. Looking around I found myself in a grassy meadow close to a small lake. I walked toward the lake trying to remeber. What did I know for sure? Closing my eyes, I realized I didn't know my own name. I panicked. Who doesn't know there own name?
I began to feel quite warm and dizzy. I usually liked warm weather like this. How could I know that, but not my own name. Looking around I found myself in a grassy meadow at the edge of woods. Off to my left there was a small pond. I crawled toward it and began to dip my head.Startled by the image i jumped back. my head snapped upward looking for the beast, but there was nothing. Again i glanced into the reflection of the pond. The mighty whie beast sparkled like untouched snow hit by sunlight. Fire red eyes filled with confusion and awe stared back at me. I tilted my head and it followed. The truth was inevitable.
I lowered my head to the water. ripples expanded outward. For a split moment the dragon was altered, and in it's place stood a girl. Icy blonde hair seemed to fly back in invisible wind. Her deep blue eyes held a hidden sorrow that her smile covered. Then, as quickly as the image came it was gone.
Flashes began playing through my head. A young girl running around in a woods. Snow gently fell all around her, but despite the cold she was wearing only a shirt and jeans. She looked cold, but ignored it. Her fascination with nature was as clear as the sun in the sky. Then it al changed. The girl was older and more like the rippled reflection I had seen. She was now reading a book near a pool. Finally she stood up and began to work her magic, literally.
Visions off the girl just kept going on. It didn't take a genius to realize that girl was the real me, but how did I end up in the body of a dragon? Not a single vision gave me a clue, except the magic. That was my only real hint. There was nothing I could do but wonder what was ahead of me. Instinct took over as I streached out my wings and did what a person could only do in their dreams. I flew. I longed for the colder air, so I flew to the distant mounains.
