Jenelle's POV

My arrest was all over the evening news and the report showed me being led inside the precinct in handcuffs.

I was so scared. All I thought was that I couldn't wait for Ricky to come save me, so I could go home.

Investigator: who are you?

Jen..Jenelle.

Investigator: LIE!!! WHATS YOUR NAME?!!

I told you my name is Jenelle.

Investigator: whats your national ID number? Where do you live?

I didn't answer. Cuz I know they wouldn't find it.

3 hours passed by.

I sat crouched in the corner of the cell that evening, and perked up with relief to see Stacey.

Did you do this Stacey?

Stacey: yes! I did it, this was the best I could do in this situation, because Ricky can't continue to be living with a suspect in his attempted murder.

Stacey: I promise you ill hire the best lawyers if you just cooperate with the investigators.

Even if I wanted to reveal it, I have no identity to reveal.

Stacey: honey, everyone has an identity, everyone even the poor people. Your not that special to not have an identity.

I don't have one.

The interrogation only worsens the longer it goes on. The detective becomes increasingly desperate and frustrated, while I continued my silence, it was growing wearier by the minute.

Eventually they give up trying to get answers out of me, and I was transported to the penitentiary.

Penitentiary- a prison for people convicted of serious crimes.

Ricky... where are you?.

Narrator.

Ricky finally returns from his trip and is met with a crowd of reporters at the airport. He smiles and says in a upbeat voice that he doesn't believe Jenelle to be in league with the killer, and winks at the female reporter right in front of him with a friendly warning not to believe everything she hears.

Ricky's POV

Ben : Yo! Stacey's been calling me cuz u ain't answering her phone calls. What's wrong?

I'll talk to her face to face.

We were now outside the prison when we saw Stacey walking towards us.

Stacey: where are you going?

I'm going inside I wanna see Jenelle.

Stacey: uh.. no! no u can't I already hired some lawyers, but she's not answering the investigators.

Stacey! Don't you get it she can't say anything that's why I'm protecting her.

Stacey: the answer is already obvious if Jenelle can't reveal a logical explanation for her action, it means she's guilty.

That's the kind of flawed reasoning that led to me almost ending my life—people just assumed that i killed my family because the facts they saw on the surface supported their idea, and i became a murderer.

people always see the phenomenon on the surface, and not the underlying context for why it's happening—and they mistake that for common sense.

The last thing Jenelle did was toss the phone i gave her, in an effort to protect me. For me, it's not identity that's important, but reading a person's true motivation.

I started this business because I wanted to help other people who were victims of common sense like me. But you created yet another victim. That means you don't have the right to be my assistant. Just remain as my friend. You're fired.
I'm sorry.
