Chapter 33

Ricky's POV

Jenelle: Ricky... how?? How did you??

My world stopped—everything but me. I don't know why I was the only one not frozen in time.

I guess it was perks of being a main character. I laugh.

Jenelle: what.. what about the others?

I left it all and came here, and spent all the cash I had in my pocket to read all thirty-three volumes of my comic.

I understood now how Jenelle knew me so well, and guessed that she was a devoted reader who had followed me for seven years.

Do... Do you know how much I regret it now? I should've listened to your warning then... I'm such an idiot!.

I thought back to her warning in prison that I'd be unhappy if she told me the truth.

I never could've imagined that the truth would be this.

I know now, how much you were thinking of me with your silence then.

That's why.. I'm here to say goodbye for one last time.

She gives him a quizzical look.

I smiled faintly and thanked her for being so considerate to the end.

You.. are a really good person, great to be honest and you deserve to be the best doctor in the world.

Narrator

Jenelle searches his face, not knowing what to make of any of this, when she's interrupted by a phone call asking her to come down to surgery. She asks Ricky  to wait here for her and not go anywhere or do anything, and to just think of her as his guardian.

Hahah are you mimicking me?

Jenelle: here you have no money, no ID, and no house, which is a predicament that I  understand well.

Jenelle: I'm not rich like you, but I'm a real doctor here, with money and a home.

I was touched by her words. She really does care.

Jenelle : you stay right here okay? Don't go anywhere.. wait for me.

Okay.

she turns to go.

But at the last second I pulled her back towards me and leaned down to kiss her, this time slow and soft and lingering.

When I finally stepped back, Jenelle still had her eyes closed like she didn't want to wake up from this moment.

She does eventually open her eyes again, and then she starts to panic, wondering why I was suddenly being like this.

I said that I felt like i was always the one at a disadvantage, but then I got to see Jenelle's  true intentions too.

Jenelle gets the second call from the nurse and had to go, but she urged me to wait for her, and to seek out her friend Jake if anything happens while she's in surgery.

I said that Jake acted prickly when I said I was your fiancé, and made sure that I ain't your boyfriend. Jenelle  reminds me that she already told him she didn't have a boyfriend.

With that.. she left.
