Chapter 4- ジャガイモ (potato)
"This guy found your money at lunchtime." Iwaizumi jabbed a thumb at the handsome brunette stood behind him.
"It was just lying in the corridors, I didn't mean to steal it, I didn't think it belonged to anyone!" He explained apologetically.
"It's fine! At least I know where it went!" 3000¥ was thrust in my face by Iwaizumi.
"I made sure he didn't spend it in case it did belong to someone." My eyes bubbled with tears as I bowed as low as my spine would let me, surprising the boys.
"Thank you so much! I don't have to eat raw potato anymore!" I cried in joy.
"Raw potato?" I froze again. They must think I'm really insane (Great going Jahina!).
"Sorry, it's nothing. Thank you.." I trailed off, not knowing the other boy's name (I'm sure I've heard the girls screaming it before..).
"Oikawa Tooru!" He introduced cheerfully with a peace sign.
"Thank you Oikawa-San for finding my money!" I bowed again as he smiled.
"It was nothing!"
"Thank you very much again Iwaizumi-San!" I bowed to Iwaizumi, surprising him.
"It's fine, I'm sorry you couldn't eat lunch because you didn't have your money." Iwaizumi dismissed my actions with a wave of his hand, his other hand scratching the back of his head sheepishly (why is he so nice?!).
As I bowed, I caught sight of a torn kitbag in Iwaizumi's hand. "If you want I can fix your bag." I pointed out, "A way of repaying you!"
He was taken aback by my sudden cry (I have no volume control, oops).
"No it's fine-"
"Honestly! I'll get it back to you by tomorrow, I'm pretty good with a sewing machine! I won't be able to sleep at night know I have an unpaid debt!" I continued, practically begging him (it's true, and I get pretty cranky from lack of sleep- not a pretty sight). He looked flustered and speechless. "Plea-"
"Okay fine, I get it. Here, you don't need to say please or thank you again. I've heard you say it too much today." Iwaizumi mumbled the last part, holding out his kitbag (I felt honoured, like a knighthood from God).
"Thank you!" I quickly put my hands on my mouth, remembering how Iwaizumi told me not to say thank you. "Sorry!" I gasped again, fighting my huge urge to apologise again. I wanted a black hole to be erected right next to the Earth and for the Earth to be swallowed into it.
"Haha, you're so silly, don't look so upset!" Oikawa laughed as I felt like I was going to die of embarrassment (it is possible, a lady in 1860 got caught stealing in public and died on the spot from a heart attack; extreme rush of adrenaline and other stress hormones).
"S-Sorry.."
"What's your name? Are you in Iwa-chan's class?"
"Her name's Hoshino Jahina. I sit next to her in class." Iwaizumi answered for me (even though I could speak for myself perfectly well).
"Hoshino Jahina? That's a pretty name, it's not Japanese is it?" I shook my head.
"My Grandmama's from Syria, which is where Jahina is from."
"How cool!" Oikawa hummed in awe, Iwaizumi raising a brow.
"Well we have to be getting to club." Iwaizumi nodded his head to me, which I mirrored (I don't fully understand the meaning of the head nods, but I did it anyway).
"Of course. Take care! Thank you again!" I bowed lightly to the pair.
"See you around Hoshi-chan~!" Oikawa sent me a charming smile before going in the gym, volleyball if I remember correctly, Iwaizumi scolding Oikawa for his use of '-chan', although I really didn't mind.
Seeing as I was new, I didn't have to join a club just yet (I don't particularly want to join a club anyway), so I went home.
"I'm home!" I yelled, although I knew no one would be home just yet. I sat down at my desk and pulled out my sewing machine and spent the next few hours sewing up Iwaizumi's kitbag. At some point I fell asleep.
EDIT: (1/2021) someone kindly pointed out that Jahina does not mean beautiful in Syrian, i got confused with Jamila
fun fact: i've had that [Jahina means beautiful in Syrian] written in my notes for YEARS -even passed from phone to phone via iCloud- but *clearly* my fingers didn't type correctly or autocorrect has been screwing with me for years rip
