Chapter 9 - 及川 (Oikawa)
"H-Hai!" I shot up, bowing deeply to show my respect for the team, my eyes scrunched shut nervously. "My name is Hoshino Jahina, I look forward to working with you and I hope I can be of some help!" I managed to utter out without my voice cracking or wavering.
I stayed like that, having only silence as my resonse. I peeked an eye open, looking over at Irihita who seemed greatly amused by my flustered form.
"You can stand Hoshino." Nobuzuro said, I did as told with a huge blush on my face at the boys' stares (Oikawa had sparkles in his eyes which I wanted to avoid). I met eyes with Iwa-chan who gave me a reassuring smile.
"Welcome Hoshino-San!" He yelled, bowing as the other team members snappet out their daze and followed the Ace's example. My face flushed more red as I nodded to them.
"Y-You can drop the san..." I muttered embarrasedly, covering my face with my hands.
"She will be helping us out and as she used to play volleyball, she can offer advice and constructive critisism." Irihita stated, grinning as he used the words I wrote (see this is why I hate "selling myself").
"H-Hai, I used to play volleyball so I can help out on receiving, serving or setting, or whatever you need. And if you need any other kinds of assisstance, I'd be happy to help..!" I blabbered, facepalming after I finished spewing all kinds of nonsense, dread marks surrounding me (they're going to think I'm weird and not approach me if I need help).
"It's nice to have you Hoshi-chan~!" Oikawa chimed, winking at me, which I only flinched at (I'm not used to this attention).
"That's all, clean up now!" Coach Nobuzuro dismissed the team as they ran off to clean up the gym.
I tried to help where I could, but ended up getting ignored. I sighed hopelessly as a stray ball rolled my way. I picked it up and handed it to a boy with dark brown, neatly parted hair, no fringe or hair in his face but a bored expression.
"Here you go!" I put it in the trolley, sending him a smile.
"Thank you." He said monotonously.
"Do you need anymore help?" I offered.
"No I'm good thanks." I stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to do. "Say Hoshi-san,"
"Hai!" I was immensely proud he called me, I was needed!
"Are you one of Oikawa-senpai's fangirls?"
"Eh? Fangirls? What do you mean?" Was this something I was supposed to know about?
"Do you like Oikawa-senpai? As in do you want him to date you or something?" My cheeks exploded red again as I denied it furiously.
"No no no no! I wouldn't dream of it! He's really nice, but I wouldn't date him! We aren't even close!"
It seemed he heard me as he came bounding over. "What do you mean we're not close Hoshi-chan? I'm insulted!" He sniffled.
"Ah! I'm so sorry Oikawa-san! I didn't mean it like that! I look up to you and I admire your determination in volleyball, and you're really nice, but I just think I wouldn't date you!" I began to panic as Oikawa continued to turn his back on me.
"I'm joking~! You're too cute!" He suddenly hugged me so tightly I couldn't breathe.
"O-Oikawa-san!"
"You look up to me? You're just adorable!"
"Can't! Breathe!"
"Oi! Get off her trashykawa!" The tight hold on me was released as I felt a gentler but firm grip on my shoulders. "You okay?"
"I'm fine thank you Iwa-chan. Please don't do that again Oikawa-San, I thought I was going to die." I coughed, getting air back in my lungs.
"But you were too cute to resist~"
I hid behind Iwa-chan in case Oikawa wanted to pounce on me again. Realising what I did, I bowed to him, apologising while my cheeks heated up for the umpteenth time.
"I-It's fine." He stammered, a faint tint of pink tickling his cheeks.
