Chapter 14 - スナップ (snapped)
I greeted Jahina as soon as she walked into club obviously, noticing she looked a bit pale...
"Are you okay?" I stated my worries. "You look a bit pale."
She smiled weakly at me, "I fell down the stairs and hurt my wrist, but it's fine..." She admitted, her cheeks flushing red in embarrassment.
"Did you go to the infirmary?"
"I didn't see the need to, the pain will go."
I sighed shaking my head. She needs to take better care of herself. "Well let me see and I'll be the judge of whether it's worth going to the nurses office."
Her cheeks flamed red again as she seemed hesitant to shake off her blazer, wincing as it slipped off her arm. She held it up and my eyes widened.
"SENSEI! I'M TAKING HOSHINO TO THE HOSPITAL!" I yelled, gathering the attention of everyone.
"Nani? Nani? Did something happen?" Oikawa skipped over with a smile, his face visibly paling as he laid eyes on the state of Jahina's badly bruised arm and disfigured wrist, smile dropping. "Oh my god!" He screeched, covering his eyes, gagging.
The coaches and other boys ran over, all cringing at the sight. "Yes, please do." Coach Nobuzaku dismissed, also having to look away.
"Let's go." I ordered as she seemed panicked and confused, the team and coaches saying Oikawa should come with us too.
"W-What's going on? Where are you taking me Iwa-chan?" I could never get used to hearing that nickname coming from her.
"We're going to the hospital of course."
"But why? It'll heal eventually, right?" She seemed to doubt her own words with every passing second, greatly sensing there was something wrong. I didn't want her to panic or get scared, she looked like she was about to cry any moment.
"You've broken it dummy, can't you see the bone has snapped?" I stopped walking to explain to her firmly so she wouldn't get too frightened.
"It has?" Seriously, I thought this girl was supposed to be observant, yet she didn't know she had a broken wrist.
"I can't believe you can't tell... Doesn't it hurt?"
"It hurts a lot but can't complain, that won't do anything to solve anything." She chuckled weakly, eyes still glassy although her tears didn't spill. I couldn't tell if I wanted her tears to fall so I could comfort her or if I didn't want them to fall because it would make me feel bad, and the world would possibly end.
"You're too considerate. It's okay to be concerned about yourself every now and again or complain." I patted her on the head before taking her non-broken wrist and dragging her to the bus stop, not missing the sparkle in her hazel eyes when they widened.
I was about to pay for our tickets, but she pushed past me and slammed down the money before I could comprehend what she was doing.
"You didn't need to do that you know." I said as we sat down.
"I did. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to live with myself." She pouted, a hopeless smile making its way on my face. Only Jahina. We sat in silence for a bit, Jahina still checking out the break, I wouldn't tell her but it creeped me out. I'd only ever seen these kind of breaks on TV, which already gave me the chills, and it's definitely more gross in real life.
We made it to the hospital, directed to the accident and emergency section, having to wait an hour in the waiting room filled with crying children, adults groaning in pain and babies screaming before we were finally called to see the doctor. The doctor examined her arm, confirming it was indeed a broken wrist, but apparently they needed to x-ray it just in case.
Thankfully it was a clean break so just needed to be popped back together again then put in a cast to make sure it heals properly. After that, the doctor said to wait for a moment while he got the necessary equipment for the procedure.
"You don't have to stay you know Iwa-chan. I'm grateful for everything you've done up to this point. I really am, it makes me feel blessed." She sent me a sunny smile, at a time like this.
"I'm staying, and I'm escorting you home in one piece."
A small smile, yet more radiant than the sun, formed on her delicate face, her hazel eyes looking like a rare jewel shimmering in the red sun that was going down. "I'm glad you said so..."
(Alternate ending in Author-chan's imagination~)
"No! No! Don't leave yet shounen!* I'll need you for the procedure if you may!" The doctor suddenly appeared, skidding around the corner, pushing up his glasses with a glint.
Oh God.
*shounen = young boy
