Chapter 8- ようこそ!(welcome!)

"Welcome to the Aobajousai boys volleyball club, Hoshino. I'm coach Irihita."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Hoshino Jahina, class 3-5, I hope I can be of help." I bowed again.

"Well of course, you'll have to fill in the form first to officially join."

"Hai!" I took the paper he handed me, thanking him for the pen he provided and leaned on a nearby wall to fill in my details.

Name: Hoshino Jahina

Year: 3rd year

Class: 3-5

Role: Assistant manager

Skills: I can play volleyball from middle school, I'm athletic and have knowledge on maintaining a healthy body for athletes. I am skilled in sewing and I'd like to think I'm quite positive and can give constructive criticism when needed. I am also observant and can offer fresh ideas.

I frowned at my skills (I don't like "selling myself", I feel like I'm being egoistic) but breathed out my anxiety and strode over to Coach Irihita and presented him with my form (and returned his pen). He read it over and signed the bottom, giving me a thumbs up.

"You're now officially part of the volleyball team." He grinned as I thanked him. He proceeded to call over the other coach and explain to him that I am the new assistant manager.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Coach Mizoguchi, I look forward to working with you."

"Nice to meet you too, I'm Hoshino Jahina, oh but I'm sure Coach Irihita explained that..." I cringed at my stupidity but carried on nonetheless, can't mess up more than I have already right? "I hope I can be of help to the team."

"Observe for today and you'll properly get to work tomorrow. We'll tell the boys at the end." Irihita stated, the other coach nodding and going back over to the team to work with them. Irihita gestured for me to take a seat next to him on the bench as we watched the boys train. "So what position did you play in middle school?"

"A-Ah, well our middle school team wasn't the most professional," I remembered how we used to watch a match (all of us cramming around the tiny phone screen) and try things that we thought looked cool in the match, not really doing proper training. "So we didn't have set positions. But I mostly played libero or a pinch server."

"Hm I see." He folded his arms (please don't kick me out so quickly!) "So what made you a pinch server?"

"I can float serve, not the best, but it was good enough for middle school standards I guess. I could also serve to difficult places." I replied (I didn't tell him but I was probably the only one in my team who could serve decently).

"A float serve? Would you be able to teach it to our boys? It would be a very useful asset." Me? Teach others? That can only go so well... "As you can see we take volleyball very seriously and practice to get to nationals." I looked over to where Irihita was looking, the boys training very hard with sweat rolling down their faces. The majority were very determined, Oikawa-San more focused than I'd ever seen.

"Yes, I can see you have a very motivated team which will go very far. This team is indeed very strong, with strong bonds between each of the players. Like wires, rather than being single strands bunched together, they're all braided, intertwined together, which makes it much more effective and powerful." I mumbled out, watching in awe of their teamwork. "Ah sorry if that didn't make sense!" I began to fluster, apologising for my subconscious babbling.

"That's fine, I'm glad to see you take them seriously." He smiled. I was relieved to be accepted by Irihita. "Ah, we need to make your introduction to the boys now."
