" Well that was a long and strange day, wasn't it, Luna?" Mary laughed as she stretched out in her cell, soft pops escaping her joints at the relief of escaping their previously uncomfortable position.

" Definitely." Joelee agreed as she studied the healed over marks on her palms, tracing the marks with the tip of her finger just to be sure it was even real.

" I guess it is... A little cool that we have... Powers." Mary said after a moment, pausing a moment as if to figure out the word for what they'd received moments earlier.

" A little?! Dude, when I was younger I wanted to be a superhero so badly... I used to sprain my ankles a lot by jumping off of random things in an attempt to fly... If the circumstances were different, I'd be ecstatic... Hey, what's your power?" Joelee suddenly asked, completely derailing her own rant as her ADHD took effect. Burying her nail into the marks to see if they still hurt but no pain followed, signifying that they were in fact completely healed over.

" Oh, it's really cool! I can control electricity!" Mary replied in an excited voice that caused her accent to thicken at the rushed pace at which she spoke.

" That's amazing!" Joelee exclaimed as she gazed up at the ceiling from where she lay on her rather uncomfortable cot. It really was amazing. They had superpowers now, just like she'd always wanted when she was a kid.

'I'm a superhero... Just like I always dreamed I'd be.... So why am I not happy?' Joelee thought to herself as she slammed her palm against her head, fighting the tears that threatened to spill as her emotions came crashing in like a wave.

'I know why... Because of what it cost.' A small voice at the back of her head made her falter as she thought about what that could mean.

Joelee tensed as she ran her fingers over the scars on her stomach, the pain causing her to inhale sharply. The pain wasn't actually there, but she could feel it.

It was the same way with every piece of art he left on her body. The pain was temporary but the memory of the pain occurring caused pain to flare in her mind whenever someone came into contact with her freshest marks.

Her fingers trailed lower to the scar that cut straight across her lower stomach, the pattern resembling a line of thorns that traced from one hip to the other.

" And how about you, what's your power, Luna?" Mary questioned after a moment, a yawn escaping her lips after she asked her question, Joelee jolting from her thoughts at the distraction much to her relief.

" Well....I can turn into a wolf.... And I'm pretty sure I can read minds... But I'm not entirely sure about the second power... The wolf thing I'm like 99% certain of." Joelee answered, wiping the tears that had escaped her eyes as she took a deep breath to clear her thoughts.

" That's... Awesome! Can you read my mind.... Like, right now?" Mary's question caused Joelee to falter momentarily as she struggled to come up with an answer.

" No.... I can't control it yet... And I'm not even sure if that's what my power actually is..." Joelee replied awkwardly, silently wondering if Mary was even completely paying attention.

Her powers were incredibly awesome, she understood that. She understood Mary's excitement but felt none of her own.

Using her ability.... Her shapeshifting... While she only had one form it was like a completely separate part of herself. It was pure instinct and she could do nothing but watch through what felt like someone else's eyes but yet she remembered nothing but the pain of the transformation. As soon as the pain hit, she was forced back... Like a prisoner in her own body.
