A short haired, blond girl, sat, reading silently in her cell. In return for not screaming in the doctors ears or rambling on and on about books or movies, they had given her a book to read which she happily accepted.
In a compound where the only form of entertainment was daydreaming, a book was a very pleasant change. But then again, her scientist had a habit of allowing her things that most people would normally not be allowed to have.
Such as books, candy, small toys, and other rather sweet things that Alyssa was incredibly thankful for.
Alyssa was rather pretty with light brown eyelashes that framed her hooded eyes, her normally toned and athletic build seeming a lot more frail that she was comfortable with. Her shoulder length, butter blonde hair slightly messy from how little care she was able to provide it. Her skin pale in comparison to the sun kissed tan she usually had. Though considering how long she'd been stuck inside rather than playing basketball, tennis, or swimming, it wasn't exactly surprising. Almost everyone in the facility was pale save for a few of the scientists who she'd determined were allowed to leave at the most once a week. Her scientist Theo was allowed to leave one weekend out of a month and she honestly missed him when he was away despite the fact it gave her a break from being experimented on.
Alyssa's rust brown eyes scanned across the pages of her book, growing ever wider at every single sentence she read until she paused to reread the part she had just read to make sure she was actually reading it correctly.
"Nooooooo, how dare you, heathen?!" Alyssa yelled at a character in the book which shattered the eerie silence around her, placing a hand over her heart at the scandalizing reveal of a secret villain.
"Shut up!" A very grumpy voice groaned from the cell next to her own, causing Alyssa to jump at the sudden sound.
Nobody ever really talked to her in this cellblock due to the fear of being punished by the guards that constantly patrolled the halls.
"Sorry!" Alyssa whisper yelled, brushing back a piece of her hair that had fallen into her face but her gaze did not leave the pages of her book as she replied.
He would eventually leave her alone and she really didn't feel like talking if all he was going to do was be rude.
"What are you yelling about?" The voice grumbled after a moment which surprised Alyssa at his sudden spike in curiosity. She'd assumed he would simply scold her for being loud and go back to sleep or something.
"A very amazing book!" Alyssa yelled excitedly, gaze finally raising to the wall in front of her when she realized his tone had softened.
"What book?" The male questioned which caused a smile to creep onto Alyssa's face at finally having somebody to talk to that wasn't her scientist, Theo.
Alyssa began to describe the book she was reading in excruciating detail, leaving nothing out... Except the title... Which she eventually gave at the very end of her rant. Speaking as though she were a saleswoman, attempting to sell the poor stranger on the whole book franchise as a whole.
The boy went silent for a moment, causing Alyssa to momentarily wonder if she had imagined the entire exchange before the male finally replied in a sad voice.
"A girl I knew used to read that series.... She wanted to marry the main dude." A giggle escaped Alyssa's lips at his words, feeling personally attacked by the fact she too had a major crush on the main character's love interest.
"Same though!" Alyssa laughed loudly as she gently laid the book down, marking the page with her blanket before she turned her full attention to her new friend.
