As the bell rings throughout the school, I make my way through the halls so I can get to my locker.

My eyes widen in surprise when I find a familiar face waiting for me. Alex leans against my locker, and I can still remember him waiting there like he did on the first day of our freshmen year.

He looks up from his phone and flashes me a bright smile. "Hey."

I force a tight smile and avert my gaze. "I need to get to my locker," I mumble.

He nods his head and steps away. I quickly put in my combination, and it opens with a click.

Out of the corner of my eye, I can see he's still there.

He clears his throat. "H- how was your day?"

I throw him a straight face. "Why are you talking to me?"

He raises his eyebrows in amusement. "You're still asking me that?"

"Yep," I answer instantly. "After probably 2 years of ignoring me, it's funny how you want to talk now."

"But you were ignoring me, too," Alex says, sticking his hands in his pockets.

I close my locker. "Exactly," I say, turning to him. "I was ignoring you, because you were ignoring me."

He opens his mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.

I give him a smile and pat his shoulder. "Now if you excuse me, my brother is waiting for me."

I shove past him and make my way outside. I quickly find Theo's car and hop in. "Start driving," I tell him.

He glances over at me. "Bad day?"

I look down at my hands and shrug my shoulders.

He lets out a sigh and backs out of the parking space.

Once Theo parks in the driveway, we all hop out.

I rush inside and head up to my room. Life hates me so much.

I hear my phone start to ring and I let out a groan, hoping that it's not him. I saw who the call was from: Jade.

I let out a sigh of relief and accept the call. "I didn't ask for Chinese food," I immediately say into the phone.

"And I didn't want Starbucks," her familiar voice replies. It's a joke we do. Weird, I know.

"So, what do you want?" I ask, collapsing on my bed.

"I'm at our regular pizza place, and Alex is here," she says in a low voice.

My eyebrows scrunch in confusion. "I don't really give a fuck."

"Would you give a fuck if I told you that he's with a girl?"

Now, I'm curious. "Do we know her?"

There's a slight pause for a second. "Well, I think she might be from my Span- yea, she's from my Spanish class," she tells me. "Her name is Melissa."

Melissa? "Who's that?" I question.

"She's friends with Yoslyn," she explains, and I roll my eyes. I hate that bitch.

"So, what does Melissa look like?" I ask, still curious about who's the girl that Alex is hanging out with.

"She- she has short blonde hair. It's wavy," she tells me. "And I freaking love her jacket."

I let out a chuckle. "That's nice, Jade."

"To be honest, she's kinda pretty," she says quietly. "I think she- fuck."

I cough on my spit. "What?"

"I gotta go, people are looking," she says quickly before ending the call.

I let out a sigh and set my phone on the table beside me.

I hear a loud knock at my door. "It's open," I call out.

The door slowly opens revealing Delilah. And for some reason, she looks like she's about to cry.

"What's wrong?" I immediately ask.

She walks up to my bed and takes a seat. "I don't want to go to school tomorrow."

I shrug my shoulders. "I mean, I do too."

She runs her fingers through her hair. "No, no. I mean, I don't want to go to school because of him."

I sit there confused. "Him?" I repeat.

"The guy I like," she says quietly.

"Oh," I say, nodding my head. "What's wrong with him?"

And she starts crying. "He doesn't like me," she tells me, as tears run down her face.

     Oh, dear.

"Aw, no. No, don't cry," I say softly, as I pull her into a hug. "A girl should never cry about a boy who doesn't care."

But she continues crying, and I don't know what to do.

"Theo! Theo, get over here," I call out to my older brother, as I caress Delilah's hair.

A few seconds later, my brother walks. He pulls on a hoodie over his shirtless body. "Yea?"

His attentions turns to our little sister, who's bawling her eyes out in my arms.

I stare at him, waiting for his reaction. He sits on the bed. "What's wrong, Del?"

Delilah turns to him and wraps her arms around his neck, and continues crying. He immediately hugs her back and glances at me. What happened? he asks silently.

I shrug my shoulders. "A boy," I answer quietly.

He shakes his head and runs his fingers through Delilah's hair. "You know," he says softly to her, "I can commit murder for if you want. Just give me the kid's address."

Delilah starts laughing through her tears, and he lets out a smile.

"I'm gonna find something to eat," I tell them, as I exit my room. It's funny how my oldest and youngest siblings have a closer bond than I have with any of them.
