"Melissa" was the first word I heard this morning as my eyes fluttered open.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine," Alex mumbles quietly into his phone, sitting on the floor with a blanket still over his legs. "I'll see you Monday, okay?"

He ends the call and lets out a sigh.

"What happened?" I ask in a tired voice, as I sit up and rub my right eye. I take notice of the dim early morning sky peeking through my window.

Alex quickly turns his head over in my direction. "Oh," he says in slight surprise, before sending me a smile and a wave of his hand. "Morning, beautiful."

I run my fingers and smile sleepily at his greeting. "Morning, bubble gum."

He moves closer and rests his arms on the side of my bed and looks up at me. "That was Melissa," he says in a quiet voice. "Apparently her aunt just passed away last night, and she's not dealing with it very well."

Although what I've just heard was tragic news, I raise an eyebrow in curiosity. "And she called you?"

He shrugs his shoulders. "I am one of her friends."

"Yea. One of her friends that she hangs out with rarely," I respond.

I hear a chuckle from Alex. "Now is not the time to be jealous, babe," he says, his husky voice catching me off guard. "I just told you that a girl's aunt isn't alive anymore."

"Oh right," I mumble quietly, as I run my fingers through my hair. "How tragic."

I hear Alex let out a sigh and stand up. He does a few stretches before heading toward the door. "I'm gonna eat breakfast."

"Oh," I exclaim, as I step off my bed. "Wait for me."

I grab a hoodie from my closet and slip it on, before taking Alex's hand as we head downstairs.

"Don't you have to be somewhere today?" I ask, as I stuff a piece of waffle in my mouth.

Alex is sitting beside me on the couch, as we feast on our food. "Why? It's Saturday."

"I thought you usually have something to do on Saturdays," I state in confusion. "Right?"

He shrugs his shoulders, as he leans his head back with a sigh. "I mean, I used to help out my aunt with her son, but I got busy."

I nod my head. "Well, we're not busy today. Do you think it's fine if we go to her house right now?"

He lifts his head and sends me a bright smile of excitement. "Really?"

I shrug my shoulders. "Why not?"

And about an hour later, we're in his car, heading to his Aunt Penny's house.

"So, what's she like?" I ask, as I stuff a chip in my mouth.

"She's nice," Alex replies in thought. "But she's also pretty stubborn."

I turn my attention to the view outside the window. "Do you think she'll like me?"

I feel the car slow down, finally stopping at a house.

"We're about to find out," Alex says, unbuckling his seat belt and stepping out of the car.

I do the same, before we both make our way to the front door.

In a few seconds after ringing the doorbell, it swings open, revealing a woman with her hair dyed a light shade of pink.

"Alex?" She questions, before her eyes land on me with surprise. "You finally have a girlfriend?"

My eyes immediately widen.

"No, no," Alex quickly denies in embarrassment. "Aunt Penny, this my friend Ivy."

"Oh," she says with a tilt of her head. "Right, she's that girl you would talk about all the time. I remember you said-"

"Aunt Penny," he interjects before she can say anymore. "We actually came to help you with Timmy."

"Timmy?" She mumbles to herself, before nodding her head in realization. "Oh right, I have a son!"

"Yes, you do," I hear Alex say quietly beside me.

"Well, come inside. Come in," she says, making way for us to enter. "I'm actually have trouble with little Timmy over here."

She closes the door as we make our way to the living room. Sitting on the couch with a huge sock flopped on his head was a cute little boy with red hair.

"Hey, Timmy," Alex greets him in a small voice, as he walks over to the couch and takes the sock, revealing bright green eyes.

"Oh my god, you're adorable," I say in awe, as I stare at the kid.

He looks up at me in curiosity. "I'm not adorable. I'm Timmy."

Alex starts laughing while my eyes are trained on the little boy in front of me.

     I'm speechless.

"Who wants a cookie?" Aunt Penny asks, as enters the room with a tray of baked goods.

"Me, mommy," Timmy replies, as he slides his small body off the couch to grab a cookie. After grabbing one, his eyes meet mine once again. "Who are you?"

"Oh- I'm Ivy," I say awkwardly, sticking my hand out for him to shake.

I watch him hesitate before accepting the handshake. "If he's your new boyfriend, be careful. I heard he's a handful," he says with no hint of shame or embarrassment on his face.

I wish to have this kid's confidence in everything I do.

"Thanks, Timmy," I tell him with a smile. "But I'm not dating him."

"Good," he says, as he walks away. "Because he's my least favorite cousin."

Once Timmy leaves the room, Aunt Penny and I burst out laughing.

"Wait, why does he hate you so much?" I wheeze, as I look over to Alex.

His arms are crossed. "I didn't share my candy with him when I last saw him."

I can help but let out another laugh.

In the midst of the moment, I catch his gaze on me, and a smile of amusement on his face.
