Another trial. Another three files, these one for Vellatovarin Tempus, Shark Finn, and Halcyon Stirling. If only paperwork was the most distasteful demand that was being made of him.

"I beg your pardon? You want their corpses, of all things? I had rather hoped you would break the Golgari stereotype, but it would seem I am doomed to be disappointed."

If Allard's remark annoyed Jarad, Lich-king of the Golgari, he didn't let it show on his face. "Just like an Azorius to blow things out of proportion. Vellatovarin's body is mine by right, as you very well know, lawmage. As for the others, well, they're needed for the trial. I'll even return them afterwards, though I make no guarantees as to their condition. The resurrection process is harder on some than others. That's why I would prefer to have the corpses of the pair of merfolk from Simic now rather than later. The fresh ones are always easiest, and in a few hours they'll be as difficult to revive as the others."

Allard's gorge rose. "You plan to... to zombify them?"

He realized somewhat belatedly that his implication might be considered insulting to the undead elf before him. He cleared his throat.

"That," Jarad informed him in positively arctic tones. "Is exactly what I plan to do. Now, we come to a question: are you going to give the bodies now? Or are you going to make me go over your head so I'll get the bodies from the committee, rendering them far less conveniently resurrected?"

Allard hesitated. Even the Orzhov deserved to rest in peace after those trials, and he positively loathed the thought of his fallen Azorius comrade serving Golgari as a grotesque puppet.

Jarad's fist erupted with silent violet flames. "There is a correct answer to the question, Guildmage Sharikov."

It was a long moment before he managed to work up the motivation to sign the necessary forms. It was even longer, even after the undead guildmaster left that he managed to force down the bile in his throat.
