For most kids, an average Saturday night would be sitting at home with some friends watching the newest action movie and staring in awe at all of the explosions and wishing they could own a lot of fast cars and be the head of a gang.
Me, meanwhile, an average Saturday night is all action. Running from explosions and riding around in a fast car chasing the head of a gang.
While some of you might think that is awesome and is wondering where you can sign up to be a superhero, don't. Being a superhero may come with love from fans, money, and the satisfaction of saving the day, superheroes never really tell you what happens behind the scenes. All of the doubt, the fight to stay alive from day to day, wondering whether or not you can trust your fellow teammate.
Every superhero feels this way about themselves and others, but for me, all that doubt and fear and mistrust is doubled.
Yes, I am superhero. In fact, I happen to be the sidekick to the one and only Batman.
That's right, the Caped Crusader himself. The Dark Knight of Gotham.
You might now be thinking that the Bat and I are the best of pals, hanging with each other in our free time and laughing over our latest villain takedown. But, the thing is, Batman doesn't even know who I am.
Neither does the Justice League.
No one knows.
Except me.
Batman, after four years of crime fighting and working together, trusts me with his life.
The Justice League, however, doesn't. They believe that if even the one and only Batman doesn't even know who I am, then how am I to be trusted? They think I could be a criminal, or even a murderer.
But no one knows me. No one knows my past. I don't share my life experiences with anyone, even Batman. Especially Batman. It is just easier to do my job if no one knows what has happened behind the scenes.
By now, you are probably very interested in who I am.
Well, to answer your question, Robin. The Boy Wonder. The second half of the Dynamic Duo. The sidekick to the Dark Knight.
To others, I am known as Richard John Grayson. Dick Grayson. Dick. Robin.
Whatever you want to call me, I am one person.
Well, I am one person who never has an average Saturday.
