Raine

I hovered over my pots to check the food I cooked & quickly ran to change.

I wanted tonight to be great for both Aidan & I. I felt like I needed to put in some effort because he did too. I appreciated that a lot. He must see I appreciate him too.

I fixed my criss cross top as I heard a knock from the door. I answered it to see a radiant Aidan, a white antique vase with flowers in his hands.

"Hey," he leaned in & kissed my cheek.

"Hi," I smiled at him.

"These are for you. A little house warming trick my mom taught me," he smiled as he handed me the flowers.

"They're beautiful. Thank you so much," I blushed & set them on the middle of the coffee table.

"Speaking of beautiful, that is what you look tonight," he smiled & then shook his head, "let me not insult you. That is what you are Raine. Beautiful."

"Thanks Aidan," I blushed & twirled my ankle, "you look Vogue material. Did I ever tell you that you have a killer fashion sense?"

"Thanks. I really do try," he chuckled.

"Sit down at the table, dinner with be out in a minute," I smiled & walked back inside. Moments later I came out with our plates.

"I already know what this is," he gasped as I put down his plate, "& may I say, I'm very impressed."

"Thanks. My dad's a chef so I have a knack for it," I shrugged shyly & sat down.

Aidan slowly ate my food & I could see he was experiencing food orgasms, or foodgasms, referred to in the culinary arts, ever so often.

"That good?" I chuckled as I ate mine which I had grown so used to.

"Splendiferous," he remarked.

"Big food gives you big vocabulary," I chuckled.

"Yep," he chuckled & kept eating in silence. I could tell he was thinking of something but he was thinking of it in fear.

"Have you ever thought of getting serious?" he asked, his voice so inaudible I thought I might have to ask again.

"As in?" I asked with slurred emotion.

"Well we have been seeing each other for a while, maybe it is time we started," he paused with a gulp, "dating" the word rolling off his tongue as if a word in a totally foreign language.

"Aidan, look, you're sweet & absolutely amazing but I have a thriving career I need to focus on & probably don't know the first thing about dating. It's been a while, I mean a long while & we haven't known each other long enough so maybe it's a bit too early?" my voice going high pitched towards the end.

"I understand," he said & finished his food.

"Thank you," I nodded & looked down at my plate.

"I think I should go. I've got something on tomorrow so," he trailed off as he stood up.

"Aidan," I whined.

"I'm sorry. I had a great time," he tried to smile but it didn't allow.

He walked to the door & I rushed behind him.

"Bye," I placed my hand on the door knob before he could.

"Bye," he sighed, slowly lifting my hand from the knob & leaving.

Now I feel terrible.
