Rin momentarily stares at me with wide eyes that clearly show shock. But almost right after, his eyes seem to display a different emotion.
"Yin...what's wrong with you?" He says, his eyes now showing sadness.
"Nothing... I just thought that we'd play a little game!"
I spin and swing my arms forward, releasing the newly materialized morning star. It flies through the air in Rin's direction until it finally begins to descend because of gravity and its unbalanced weight. Rin jumps out of the way and the spiked weapon crashes through the wall.
It soon becomes similar to a game of cat and mouse--one attacks and the other simply evades. Each time a strike is attempted with a materialized weapon, it's either evaded or countered. But eventually that game of cat and mouse comes to an end.
Just as Rin ducks underneath my swinging blade, he knocks it out of my hand and he pins me down, restricting my movement.
"This is only the second day I've known you...but I can tell that this isn't you." He says.
His words don't seem to register so I stay quiet and say nothing for the moment, not even trying to get him off me.
Not...me? You don't know me...
"How could you possibly...know the real me?!"
I start to move around, twist, and turn to get out of his grasp. His grip doesn't loosen. If anything, it's gotten tighter.
"I can just tell..." He trails off, silence replacing the sound of his voice. "So...snap out of it, Yin! Whatever's going on with you, fight it! I know you can! Don't let-"
A low, menacing laugh escapes my throat and seems to echo, filling the room with it's sound.
"You just don't get it, do you?!" I say, using my head to hit Rin.
The headbutt automatically makes Rin put his hands to his forehead in pain, letting me turn the tables on him.
"I have to make a hard decision now... Should I kill you...or continue enjoying this fight? Hmm...would you like to choose for me?"
Rin stares at my eyes for what seems like several moments before eventually turning his head away from me. His hair covers his eyes but it doesn't seem to bother him. He finally gives a response after waiting for so long.
"No." He says.
"Hmph. I guess I'll just kill you then!"
As I bring my arm back, a halberd materializes in my hand. I begin to bring it down just as quickly as it appeared but my arm stops just inches away from Rin's face.
No... I... I can't do this...
I struggle to move my arm as if it were frozen or glued in its current position. No matter how many times my brain sends a signal saying move, my arm just won't budge. Tears begin to form and fall from my eyes out of pure frustration.
Then--miraculously--my arm moves. I throw the pointed weapon to the side and the metal clangs against the ground.
I'm sorry... I just-
The sharp pain in my head comes back and a loud scream almost comes out. I put my hands over my mouth to keep it in. My legs begin to feel weak and I find myself collapsing on the ground.
This can't happen again... This can't happen again...
"It's ok-"
"It's not ok, Rin!" The yelling makes my head hurt worse and I wince.
"I know that wasn't you earlier..." He says. "Don't blame yourself for something that wasn't your fault."
I don't think I can do that...because it is my fault...
"Rin...you don't get it. One part of me wants to kill you...and the other wants to save you."
