Chapter One
[Yuri's POV]
The fireworks are nothing compared to this feeling exploding inside my chest. I'm still not entirely sure what that feeling is. All I know is I want to be close to him...
.
I stare down at my feet as I trail behind Otabek. Now that the moment has passed, the embarrassment is catching up on me.
I trace the golden bracelet around my wrist with my finger. The corners of my mouth curl into a smile as my voice replays in my head,
"Stay with me forever!"
It might have been embarrassing begging Otabek to stay but it will be really fun living with him from now on.
"What are you smiling about?" Otabek asks cheekily.
"Nothing really." I answer, though for some reason I couldn't help smiling wider.
We stroll through the city in peaceful silence. So many emotions surfaced tonight, I'm sure Otabek is just as exhausted as I am. My feet begin to wear tired with each step I take. I guess wearing heeled boots wasn't the best idea...but being the same height as Otabek for once was worth it!
"Hey, is something the matter? You're falling behind a bit." Otabek questions.
I look up to see Otabek a few paces in front of me. "Oh, my feet are just a little sore."
Otabek walks over and bends down in front of me without a word.
"What are you doing?" I ask bluntly.
"Get on my back." Otabek says, looking over his shoulder.
"What? No." I reply.
Otabek faces forwards again and readies his stance. "Your feet hurt, right? I'll give you a piggy back."
"You're not carrying me, it's embarrassing!" I say stubbornly.
"Come on, it's not far." Otabek insists.
I look around hesitantly at all the people passing by.
"Just get on." Otabek orders impatiently.
"Okay!" I snap before adding grumpily, "I'll get on..."
I feel my face going red as I slowly climb onto Otabek's back.
"Hold on." Otabek advices as he rises to his feet.
I tighten my grip as I watch the ground get further away. The pain in my feet eases as they dangle in the air.
Otabek wraps his arms around my legs to secure me and walks forward steadily. "Is this better?"
"Yes..." I confess.
My cheeks are burning. I nuzzle my face into the back of Otabek's neck to hide my embarrassment.
His back is quite firm, I can feel the muscles through his shirt. For some reason, I feel safe clinging onto someone so strong but at the same time I hate feeling this small and weak. Even though I never submit to anyone, I find myself letting my guard down around Otabek a lot. I guess it's comforting knowing that I don't have to act tough to win his respect or admiration. To accept someone as they are and appreciate them as an equal...isn't that loving someone?
Memories of first meeting Otabek ripple through my mind.
"Yuri Plisetsky had the unforgettable eyes of a soldier."
I have never been close enough with anyone to care about them like I do Otabek. I believe that moment was my entrance to discovering 'love'.
"Alright, I parked my bike up ahead." Otabek informs me.
He continues to carry me on his back through the carpark. Once we reach his motorbike, Otabek gently crouches down for me to get off.
"Thanks..." I mumble reluctantly.
Otabek chuckles and tosses me a helmet. "See, it wasn't so bad right?"
"I suppose not." I smile bashfully.
Otabek revs up the engine as he always does. I roll my eyes jokingly and hop on the bike with him. The cool midnight breeze slices across my face as we speed off into the city. I wrap my arms around Otabek's waist and snuggle up against his muscular back.
I definitely feel safer holding onto him.
