Kurt was in the courtyard of an abandoned draughty building, at night. No lights, just a dim glare from a street lamp. He could year footsteps in the distance, and a meow. His hands were covered in blood and a knife was next to his feet. He tried to search for assistance, but noone was there. Then he saw a figure lying on the ground. He got further, it was Dan. He was bleeding and his breath became heavier and heavier every second.

"It's all your fault" Dan said creepily "You should have stopped before, thought about the consequences." The boy got up and went away, turning just once with the expression of disappointment written upon his face.

Kurt woke up sweating and shouting. Dan sat on the edge of his bed, trying to comfort him.

"It was just a dream, just a dream" He said, with a peaceful expression and calming voice. He couldn't know it was a dramatic version of what would happen shortly after.

Kurt was really embarrassed, he probably gave Dan the wrong impression, screaming like that for a silly nightmare. But Dan was used to those situations and decided not to bring up the nightmare in their conversation.

"C'mon, it's our first day. You don't want to be late for the first day, do you?"

A week had passed and the first day of lessons arrived. Kurt had often found himself gazing at Dan, but he justified it with mere physical attraction. Dan was a very attractive boy, and Kurt couldn't not notice it. His slender figure, his messy hair, his eyes, so intense and profound, all gave Dan another perspective. He was not just a goofy awkwardly tall nerdy boy, but also a very goodlooking grown up man.

Kurt and Dan had four classes together, just one that day and they were both scared at the thought of not having a familiar face near them.

The cafeteria was now a crowded place, students of all grades were hugging each other after summer break, seniors were now increasing their peaceful hazing before the lessons began.

Dan and Kurt had breakfast together in the last quiet spot of the canteen. They were too focused on the food to talk: they ate slowly, tasting every crump of cake, every dollop of jam or every slice of bread as if it was their last meal. They were both there, excited and scared, sometimes glancing at each other, without a word coming out of their mouths.

They walked, still silently, to their classes.

"Good luck" Kurt said when they were about to sever. Dan then grabbed him by the shoulder and hugged him tight. He knew how he felt. He knew he was scared because maybe they were right, maybe he couldn't make it, he wasn't that good. He knew how he felt because he was feeling that too, but he couldn't express it in words and he wanted to let him know that he had a shoulder to cry on, a companion to laugh with, a hand in time of me, a friend.
