*Merlin's POV*

I stumble out of my room with a headache, barely remembering last night. "Gaius?" I ask, voice slightly gravelly.

My old friend turns to look at me from his table, avoiding all eye contact. "Ah, good morning, Merlin. How are you feeling?"

"I have a headache..." I watch him suspiciously as he gets up to retrieve medicine for me. "Is something wrong?"

"Wrong?" Gaius fake laughs. "What could be wrong?"

"Something's happened. Tell me," I say as I drink a small bottle of medicine, wincing at the bad taste.

Gaius sighs. "Merlin... You won't like this,"

"I won't like... what?" I ask nervously.

He sits down and motions for

me to do the same. "I told Arthur that you...."

I freeze. He doesn't have to finish his sentence. I already know what he means. "Why?" I ask, voice scared.

"Merlin, he-" Gaius stops himself. "He doesn't mind."

"Doesn't mind?" I stare at him in disbelief. "Arthur found out I like him- as in more than a friend- and he doesn't mind?"

Gaius shakes his head. "He would like to speak with you. Immediately,"

"What? Where?" I ask, feeling queasy.

"He said to have you meet him by the stables."

*Arthur's POV*

I wait anxiously by the stables, two horses ready to go for a ride. Why am I so nervous? I already know he loves me.

But what if he rejects me in case it gets in the way of things?

"Sire?" I turn to see Merlin, looking small and nervous.

"Merlin," I smile. "Hop on." I gesture to his horse, doing so myself.

My servant obeys as I start to lead the way out of Camelot. He doesn't protest and we ride into the forest silently.

Soon, we reach the clearing in which I've brought out a circle of lit candles with a picnic blanket in the middle, complete with a basket of food and drinks.

"What's this?" Merlin asks, clearly confused. I smile, looking into his eyes for what feels like the first time. I see a beautiful blue with hints of hazel, wondering how could I not have noticed this before?

"Sire?" I'm snapped out of my trance to see Merlin smiling shyly.

"Yes, right," I look away, embarrassed. "This is for you."

He furrows his brows. "What do you mean?"

"Merlin," I walk over to him, grabbing his hand. His eyes widen. "I've realized something in the past few days. I cannot live without you in my life. You are the one who I trust the most in the world. Without you, Merlin, I could not and would not be able to rule Camelot."

He tilts his head to the side slightly. "I don't understand."

"Merlin..." I take a deep breath and look into his eyes. "I love you."
