Chapter 8: Bad To The Bone

I was walking along pacing back and forth on the sand, waiting for Hayes to arrive. I had gotten here 5 minutes before the actual time since you know I lived here. I looked at my phone and saw it was already 5:01 pm. I shook my head with disappointment and thought to myself why waste my time on some fancy high priced wannabe actor/rising star, I mean seriously if you're going to act all apologetic you could at least be able to show up on time but oh wait I forget he's an actor, they do this all the time because they think everyone else revolves around their world.

I pick up my bag and throw it on, mumbling to myself for wasting my time for coming out here when a man starts to run towards me hysterically saying my name. I stopped in my tracks as the he approached me whacking his head with his hand. The sun beamed on Hayes' face as we stood there silently staring at each other. He took a couple steps forward towards me without saying a word, I loved the way the sunset glimmered into his eyes revealing the soft blue tone he had giving the pink and orange tones through the sky a more appealing look

"You're late Grier, I told you to be here at 5:00 sharp and you're 7 minutes late. I don't like my time being wasted kid, but I'm glad you're here come on let's race" I smiled at him giving him a confused look to his already troublesome expression.

I quickly took off my shoes throwing my bag onto a little pile next to it, letting my hair out of the mess of the ponytail I created flowing behind me. Making sure I still had the blanket and speaker in my hand with my phone secured in my pocket I give Hayes a reassuring look as he slowly but surely removed his shoes as well storing them in a small little pile we created on the sand but decided to take them up and put it in his car.

We both got into a starting position, seeing as well he had brought a bowl full of food I should assume. I counted from 3-1 and we both raced off towards to the middle of the beach. I hadn't done this in a while actually, everything from my mind seemed to slip away as I took a step, splashing the water around me, sinking my feet into the sand. By now I had passed Hayes and was running quickly by myself slowing into a stop to admire the sunset, spinning around in a circle as Hayes quietly and slowly came up behind me and splashed me with water. I kicked water towards him and he held up his hands in defense as I giggled at him.

I walked over to somewhere cool but warm to spread out my blanket that I brought for Hayes and I to talk. I sat down onto the cool blanket huddling my knees looking out into the sunset, everything seemed so perfect. An old couple and their dog came by as it quickly ran towards me slobbering me in kisses. The couple apologized about their dog scowling it before running off again somewhere on the beach.

"You're a fast runner Velvet, is that short for something, like Velveteen? I've always liked that book too. How come you're so fast? Hell I had trouble keeping up with you 5 minutes into our race" Chuckling at me before he sat down next to me staring towards the sun, Hayes had decided to as well say more. "I'm truly sorry for being late, my girlfriend kind of gets crazy when I go out without her or if I don't tell her where I'm going she'll end up like tracking me down or something" he gave a disappointing look by saying this.

"You want me to be honest with you about that?" Hayes gave me an approving look about what I was about to say about his girlfriend. "She seems like a total manipulative bitch who wants to make sure you're always there with her, she's probably gold digging you too dude, who knows maybe she's gonna try to get knocked up by you as well" finishing my sentence I laid down as the sunset was almost gone. My favorite thing was to star at the stars for a while and just pin point them. Hayes sorta of stood their in shock swallowing up what I had just said before he started to bust out laughing.

"You're right you know, she doesn't make me happy anyways, I like you Rose, you're a pretty decent person we should hang out more. By the way are you gonna answer my other questions? You don't have to if you don't want to, I pick up quickly on small details about people anyways" he said this as he stood up from the blanket, looking up at the sky as a shooting star pasted by us, mumbling along to the words of Get It Together by Drake* before giving me his hand to lift me up from the blanket. Giving him a question look he nodded over towards the pier, meaning he wanted to go up and enjoy the Rides and such.

Packing my shit up, I start to walk along with Hayes as he opens the bowl of food, inside of it was chips and with a cup of salsa with guacamole to dip the chips in. Hayes motioned the bowl towards me but I looked down at my hands as he then decided to feed me the chips instead. He almost dips the chips in and looks at me to see which dip I wanted, as I choose salsa he dips them in and puts one in my mouth, leaving a trail of salsa behind for me to lick off my face. I give him a salsa as I quickly open my mouth again for him to put another chip in enjoying the spicy flavor in my mouth.

"Track, I've been in track since elementary school" I sat looking straight at him, giving off a confused face before realizing what I meant. "And my last name's just Velvet, nothing extra added to it. Velveteen's pretty though. And you shouldn't let your girlfriend do that to you, I know I don't even know you all to well but you shouldn't let someone do that to you in general. Gives off a controlling vibe." I lied to him about my last name before exchanging back to his girlfriend discussion as we trailed along on the beach reaching his car. We put our shoes on and I grabbed my bag out of his car.

The rest of the night flew by in a whirl as we got to know each other more and more warming up to each other, by the end of the night we were laughing at each other as if we were old friends.
