It's 4:00 p.m. when we all finally decide to go home.

"My mom's here." Danielle says.

We all walk slowly to the car. Danielle is carrying at least eleven shopping bags and can barely open the door to her mom's black SUV.

"Hi girls!" Her mom greets us all with a bright smile. "Did you have fun?"

We all groan in unison. "We are really tired." Abbey sighs.

Mrs. Jones chuckles.

I pull out my phone and read a text from my mom.

Mom: Hi honey. I won't be home till late tonight. xoxo

I send her a quick reply.

Katherine: I'm spending the night at Danielle's.

Mom: Alright honey. Have fun. Love you!

Katherine: Love you too.

I put my phone away, as we all sit in silence on the rest of the way home.
---------------------------------------------

By the time we arrive at Danielle's house, the sky is turning a dark blue, signaling night time.

"Girls we are home." Mrs. Jones says aloud.

Abbey and Danielle both awake with a groan. I hadn't realized they had fallen asleep on the long car ride home.

I climb out of the car, grabbing my shopping bags.

Abbey stumbles after me, followed by Danielle.

When we enter the Jones household, the smell of cookies hits me.

"Mmm, something smells good." Abbey says, reading my thoughts.

"Oh, I made cookies for you girls." Mrs. Jones says.

"Sweet!" Danielle squeals.

We all slowly climb up the stairs, with shopping bags and plates filled with warm, gooey, chocolate chip cookies.

"Katherine have you talked to Adam since we've been to the mall?" Abbey asks as soon as Danielle shuts her bedroom door.

"No..." I say.

"Then who were you texting in the car?" What.

"Oh." I giggle. "I was texting my mom. little Ms. Nosey."

Danielle bursts out into laughter.

"What's so funny?" Abbey asks.

"Look." Danielle holds up her phone to show a tweet written by... Adam.

@AdamLevine: looking forward to the pool party next weekend!

"Why is that so funny?" I say crossing my arms over my chest.

"He's excited to go to a party-"

"With you!" Abbey joins in on the laughter.

"Um... I still don't get why it's so funny." I say.

"Well clearly you haven't told him that you aren't going!" Abbey says, catching her breath.

"Well yeah, he only invited me yesterday." I still don't understand how this could be so funny. I don't really even care about the party, so why do they?
