[Hey guys! So I am sorry i haven't updated in awhile! But i will be updating multiple times next week because SPRING BREAK! I decided to update today though because it is Adam Levine's birthday! lol happy bday Adam! Hope you all have a good week!]
"Mom?" I yell into the small, open apartment.
"In here!" She calls from the living room.
I slide my purse of my small, boney shoulders. I walk down the narrow, olive green hallway to my bedroom. I drop all my shopping bags that I gained from the previous night.
"Hey honey." My mom says as I enter the living room. "Did you have fun last night?"
I sigh as I plop down on the red loveseat. "Yeah. I got some new shorts from Urban Outfitters. And some new flip flops."
"Cute. You'll have to show me them." I look into my mom's dark brown eyes. Her eyes had big, dark circles underneath them. She was always stressed from over working. "I'm going to take a nap. Are you all good?"
"Yeah. I maybe will too. Were were up pretty late last night." I fake laugh. Talking to my mom was always hard. When my dad was alive my mom always had a beautiful, bright smile on her face. Now she has permanet frown lines and only smiles when we are with strangers.
"Okay. Your grandmother said she might come over at three. And she made some cookies last night if you want some."
"I know. Thanks."
My mom turns on her heel down the narrow hallow. When I hear her door click close I spring off the couch.
I walk down the hallway and close the door to my own bedroom. By the time my shopping bags are all thrown on the floor and I am under the covers of my bed, my phone rings.
I look at my phone, flashing Bailey's name across the screen.
"Hello?" I mutter. I never liked talking to Bailey on the phone. Because she never. Stopped. Talking
"Katherine! Guess what?" She squeals on the other end of the line.
"What?"
"Someone just moved into that apartment right next to you!"
"What! I thought no one would ever move in there! Do you know who?"
"My mom went over there earlier. She said they just moved her from England or something."
What?
"Who would move from England to the hellhole, Velva?" I ask.
"I don't know." She answers. "My mom said this was where their family lived or something."
"Do they have kids?" I wonder if I can have another neighbor that isn't Bailey... someone that will listen and not just talk.
"Uh yeah. It is a single mom and I think she just has one son."
Yes! Maybe i can babysit this summer! I tried babysitting the Jefferson's daughter last summer but... they never called back. "Oh my gosh! I'm going over later to see if I can get a a babysitting job! See ya Bailey!" I click the phone off before she can say another word.
I jump out of my bed and run to the bathroom. I turn on the water to the shower. I quickly shave my legs, wash my hair, and clean my face. When I get out of the shower I blow dry my hair and dab on a little concealer under my tired, dark eyes. I want to look presentable enough to get the job, and skipping the nap has effected my eyes.
I change quickly into a floral top from Forever 21 and a denim blue skirt.
When I get into our small kitchen I write my mom and grandma a quick note:
-Going to meet the new neighbors! Be back in a bit!
~Katherine
I slide on my gold sandels, grab my phone and walk out of our apartment.
