I slowly close the door to my apartment. I tiptoe down the hallway and enter my room.
I glance at the clock reading 5:30 a.m. I'm glad I got back at the time I did because my mom is getting up to leave soon for work.
As soon my head hits the pillow she knocks on my door.
"Kath?" She whispers.
"Hm?"
"Karen called. She said Liam is really sick but she is out of town for the weekend." I open my eyes to see my mother standing in my doorway with dark circles under her eyes. Did she hear me leave? "Would you mind just going and checking on him throughout the day?"
"Sure." I mutter. I've already taken care of him for the last two hours.
"Really?" My mom asks really surprised.
"Yeah." As long as he doesn't try and kiss me again, I want to say.
"Okay. See you later tonight." She leaves the room. Minutes later I hear the apartment door close.
I hop out of bed. I need to get the smell of achohal off of me. I don't know how I smell like it, but I do.
I walk into the bathroom and strip off my clothes. I will need to wash them once I get out of the shower. I don't want my mom to smell them or something.
I turn on the shower and slide behind the curtins letting the steaming hot water pour onto my body. I carefully suds my hair with shampoo and condition it. I take my tropical body wash and scrub my whole body with a pink loofa.
I hear my phone vibrate on the bathroom counter. Most likely just a text from my mom.
When I shut off the water a few minutes later, I wrap my body in a white towel. I walk over to the counter and check my phone.
Liam: Heard i get to spend the day with you? (;
What a pig. He isn't sick, just hung over. Majorly hung over.
I put my phone down on the counter and head back to my room. I might as well get ready for the day.
I pick out a navy blue crop top and some white, high-waisted shorts.
I walk back into my bathroom and pull out my mom's hairdryer. As I'm carefully blowdryings a section of my hair my phone vibrates again.
Adam: Hey, sorry I'm texting you so early haha. But you still want to go today?
Katherine: Yeah! What time?
Adam: Can you meet up at the theatre at 1?
I look at the clock on my phone only reading 8:28 a.m.
Katherine: Yep. See you there(:
I finish blow drying my hair and send a text to Liam.
Katherine: Nope. I'm only "checking" on you.
I walk down the carpeted hallway into the kitchen. I open a gronala bar and munch it down quickly.
Might as well check on Liam once. I put on my sandals and walk out of the apartment.
I walk right on in to Liam's apartment.
"Hello?" I shout.
"In here." I hear from his bedroom.
I walk down the hall into his room to find him lying on the mattress on the floor.
"Hey." He says looking up at me with bloodshot eyes.
"Are you okay?" I ask him, walking closer to the bed.
"Yeah. I just drank a wee bit too much last night." He says with a low grogy, voice.
"Well I only left here about less than four hours ago. Have you slept since then?"
"Yeah. I think I slept off most of the achohal." He says rubbing his eyes.
"Where did you go last night?" He only just moved here two days ago. Where could he have been?
"I was at a night club down town."
"Thought so. How did you know about a club down town if you only just moved here?"
"I lived her from the age nine to thirteen."
"Really?" How had I never heard about him them.
"Yes. I didn't go to your school though. I lived only five minutes away from here." He says answering my thoughts.
"Where did you just move from then?" I don't know why I'm asking so many questions.
"I went to go live in England with my aunt."
"Is that where your mom is right now?"
"You ask a lot of questions." He chuckles. "But, yes. She is filling out paperwork and stuff I guess."
"And she just left you here alone?"
"Katherine, I'm nineteen. I can stay by myself. Besides this is going to be my apartment soon."
"What? My mom said you were my age!"
"How old are you?" He sits up in bed.
"I'm turning seventeen next week." He looks a bit surprised as the words leave my mouth.
"Wow. You are hot sixteen year old." The same smirk that I have already seen twenty times spreads across his face.
I ignore his annoying remark and sit down on the floor next to the mattress.
"Why is this going to be your apartment soon?" I ask him.
He sits up a little bit more in his bed and I immediately notice he doesn't have a shirt on. I look at all the beautiful tattoos that are spread across his toned chest.
"Well," He says snapping me back to reality. "My mom is staying here for awhile to help me get settled in. Only for about two weeks. Then it is all mine. She lives downtown in a house with her boyfriend."
"Oh," The next question that slips out of my mouth is also the one that I am most frequently asked. "Where is your dad?"
He looks down. "He left when I was little."
"Oh. Sorry."
"Enough about me. Tell me something about yourself."
As I try and think of all the things to say there really is nothing. My dad died and that seems to be the only thing people care about. But Liam not having a dad either won't make it anything special.
So instead I ask, "What do you want to know?"
