"You can still change your mind." Kade, my brother, tells me as I load my final bag into the back of my car which happens to be a two year old Ford Fiesta, most likely about to break down any minute so it's probably not a good idea to travel across country in it.
"Actually I can't, I've already bought a house." I chuckle. "But even if I hadn't I would still be going, I need a fresh start."
"Well call me when you get there and all that." He says in a sarcastic voice as he hugs me before I get into the car.
"Trust me, soon you'll be begging me to stop calling you." I smile, shutting the door and rolling down the window. "See you around bro."
"Actually you won't. Remember? You're leaving and all?"
"Hilarious." I state, rolling my eyes and smiling before shoving the keys in the ignition and start up the rattly black car.
In the wing mirror I see Kade wave as I set off down the road, I stick my hand out the window and give a quick wave back before putting my hands back on the wheel at ten and two.
With the cars trunk and backseats filled with my stuff I continue to drive for a few more hours. Singing along to the loud playing music as I have a party on my own in the car, I pull up to a McDonald's drive thru and quickly turn the music down before ordering a cheeseburger.
Another hour after that I arrive into my new town, it's kind of small and comes across as the kind of place where everybody knows everybody which makes me feel even more like on outsider. At least the maximum distance my new friends will be from me is about nine miles.
Pulling up in the driveway I stare up at my new house. I double check the keys are in my back jean pocket. But they're not! "Okay relax Kristen, you put them in before. They are there." I tell myself, searching again.
I let my brain think for a second. "Oh shit." I mumble, relising that I put my purse and new house keys in my old jeans which I changed before I left. I have a little tantrum in the car which persists of hitting the edges of the steering wheel and screaming in my head.
Quickly, I pull out my phone, which seems to be the only thing I remembered that isn't packed in a suitcase, and call Kade. It beeps three times before he answers. "So you made it there alive." He says in a sarcastic voice, picking up the phone.
"Barely." I sigh in frustration. "You know how you said that you wanted to visit the house?"
"Yeah..."
"You might be seeing it quicker than you intended." I say to him.
"What do you mean?"
"I left the keys to my house at home along with my purse which has all my money and cards in, meaning I have no money to buy myself gas to fill up my car and come collect my belongings." I explain.
"Then I guess I'll see you tomorrow you idiot." Kade scoffs.
"Tomorrow!? Can't you bring them down now?" I plead.
"I'm in the bathroom on a date right now and she's hot so I might get lucky." He says.
"Gross Kade, gross. Just bring them me ASAP." I snap before hanging up.
I get out of the car and slam the door which echoes a little louder than I expected too. I don't know why but I always get really anxious in new places, I always want to make a good impression and I stress the little things like shutting a car door too loud.
"Hey!" I hear a voice call. Oh no, is someone really going to yell at me for slamming the door?
I step out from behind my car and walk sheepishly to the fence which separates my driveway from my neighbours. As the guy walks out of the shadowed doorway and into the sunlight I see he's about my age and damn he's good looking, like mouth-wateringly good looking. Chocolate brown hair which match his eyes, broad and muscular and he looks just under six foot.
"I'm Grayson." He speaks in a husky voice. Little did I know this was the start of it all...
