14. Wounded?

Alex' pov

I stood there for 10 minutes without saying anything. Kara just told me that Dad got attacked, and I couldn't move.

"Alex, are you okay?" Kara asked.

"No, what happened?" I replied, while trying not to cry.

"J'onn, Jeremiah, and I went to fight an alien and we captured him but he made a sudden move. I tried to push Jeremiah away but I was too late. The alien jumped on him and hurt his head. J'onn shot the creature, and I brought Jeremiah back to the DEO. Unfortunately, Hank couldn't do anything for Jeremiah and we decided to bring him to the hospital. The doctor said that he can't do anything, Dad is brain-dead."

"What? There has to be something that he can do."

"No, Alex. I'm so sorry. I called you because we have to pull him off the life support equipment." she answered with a dejected face.

"I can't do this." and I walked out of the hospital.

Maggie followed me and stopped me before I could jump in front of a car. She took my hand and hugged me tight. I started to cry heavily in her arms.

"It's okay, sweetie." she comforted me.

"No, it's not. This is all my fault, I should never have left. It's my fault that he's hurt, I asked Dad to replace me for awhile, and now he's gone. And I didn't even have the chance to say goodbye." I sobbed.

"Alex, listen to me. This is not your fault, you couldn't have known that this would happen, okay? This is not your fault at all. You can still say goodbye, he's not gone yet." Maggie replied.

"I need my Dad, Mags. He's my hero, he did everything for me."

"I know, sweetie."

"I want to see him. I need to say goodbye before they turn off the machines."

"Okay, let's go."

I walked back to Kara and Mom with Maggie by my side. I hugged them and asked them if they already said goodbye. They answered that everyone did, I was the last one. I entered my Dad's room, took a chair, and held his hand.

"Hey, Dad. It's me, Alex. I'm so sorry that this happened to you, you deserved so much better. I just want to say that I love you so much and that I will always be your little girl. You are my hero, Dad. You always have been and I will make sure that you will be remembered like one. I will make sure that Kara and Mom are going to be okay. You once said that I was the strong one of the family and I will be for you. But that doesn't mean that I don't need you, I will always need you in my life. Just promise me one thing, promise me that you'll always be here when I need my father." I sobbed.

And then, Kara came in to say that the doctor is going to turn off the machines. Afterwards, Mom and the rest entered the room and stood by our side. Five minutes later, the doctor came in. He asked Mom, Kara and I if we were ready. We all answered yes, Kara and I sat against his bed and hugged each other. Mom gave one last kiss to Dad and held his hand. Maggie stood behind me, rubbing my shoulders. The doctor slowly turned off the equipment and gave us some time alone.

"You can go, Dad. We love you and we will miss you." Kara sobbed.

"I love you." I said to Dad.
