Maggie's pov

It's been three days since Jeremiah's death and Alex has been a complete mess. She doesn't eat, she doesn't drink, she doesn't talk... The only thing she does is locking herself up in her room. I wish I could be there for her but she doesn't even open the door, I hear her crying every day. Yesterday, I really wanted her to come out of her room so she could eat dinner. I knew that there was a spare key of the bedroom sticked under the kitchen table. I took the key and opened the door.

"Alex, what are you doing?" I asked.

"What do you think I'm doing? I'm getting drunk." Alex said, while taking another sip from a bottle of whisky.

"Give that to me!" I angrily said.

"Maggie, go away!" she yelled.

"No! Your grief will not disappear with alcohol."

"Yes, it will. My Dad is gone, Maggie. He is dead and my heart is broken." she sobbed.

"I know how you feel, sweetie. But please, let me help you. You are not alone in this, I'm here for you." I answered.

"No, Maggie! You don't know how this feels. I want to die right now! All I feel is pain and I don't want to feel it. Your father is still alive, you have a person to talk to when you need help or when you are scared but I don't. I still have my Mom but it's not the same. Dad was my hero, and he is dead."

"I know, sweetie."

"Stop saying that!"

"Alex, I am your wife. It's not the time to avoid me. I'm here for you, for better or for worse, and this is the worse part. "

"Go away!" and she threw the bottle at me. Luckily, I could duck at the right time.

"Fine." I answered and left the room.

Kara's pov

I was watching Charlie St. Cloud when someone knocked on the door.

"The door's open." I screamed.

"Hey, Kara. It's me." Maggie said. "How are you holding up?"

"I'm doing fine, besides the circumstances. I said. "How is Alex doing?"

"Not good at all. She doesn't want to eat, she doesn't want to drink and she doesn't want to leave her room. I tried to talk to her but she threw a bottle of whisky at me. Can you please help me?"

"I know that this is hard for her. Jeremiah was her hero, she would do anything for him. I will try to talk to her."

"Thank you, Kara."

Alex' pov

I knew that Maggie had left the apartment because I heard her slam the door. I quietly opened the door and quickly took another bottle from the fridge. I returned to my room and locked the door. A few minutes later, I heard steps in the apartment. I took my gun below my pillow and held it in my hand.

"Who is it?" I yelled.

"Alex, it's me, Kara. I know that you are in your room, I'm standing right in front of your door. Please, let me in ." she said.

"No! Leave me alone, Kara."

"No, Alex! Open the damn door. I'm here for you."

"No, Kara! There's nothing you can do, you don't know how I feel."

"Alex, Jeremiah was my Dad, too."

"Just leave me alone for God's sake."

"No. I'm going to tell you a story and all I ask is that you listen for five minutes. I'll leave you after that."

I didn't answer so Kara knew that she could talk.

"I still remember something really cool from a long time ago. One night, you were very hungry and you woke me up. You asked me to go outside with you and you took some marshmallows with you. I asked you why you had them in your arms. Then, you took a marshmallow out of the bag and ordered me to use my laser eyes to roast it. Ten minutes later, Dad came outside and had a weird look on his face. You thought that we were in trouble. The next thing he asked was if he could have one, too. I looked at you and a smile appeared on your face. I just want to say that you have the possibility to keep thinking about Jeremiah's death but you can also think about the good times and smile that it happened. The choice is up to you." she said.

I slowly opened the door while wiping off my tears.

"He's gone, Kara. Dad is really gone." I sobbed.

"I know, Alex. It's okay to cry, you don't always have to be the strong one. Just know that Dad will always be there for you, even if he's gone. Because he is in your heart." Kara comforted.
