"What??!!" Kankuro exclaimed, "The heck??!!"
All of them were staring at Gaara, their eyes widened.
"Gaara you can't be serious!" Temari was dumbfounded as well.
"I couldn't believe it either, but the proof is here," Gaara handed them the scroll.
Kankuro and Temari grabbed the scroll and greedily ran through the letters, crying out loud when finishing it!
"She's really your daughter?!" Kankuro was dazed.
"It seems so," Gaara answered.
"I can't believe it..." Temari palmed her forehead in drowsiness, "Oh goodness... What will Shinki think?!"
"I'll handle it," Gaara calmly said.
"So... you're really my father?" Shamo was no less stupefied, staring at Gaara.
"I don't understand why you all are so shocked and perplexed," suddenly they heard Shusui's deep voice, who hadn't spoken all this time.
"Huh?" they looked at him. Shusui was standing there, being calm, his arms crossed.
"What do you mean? It's a shock!" Shamo exclaimed.
"Not really. I had figured it out even earlier - the minute I saw Lord Kazekage I guessed he would be the one..." Shusui quietly answered, "But as I had no proof I waited for circumstances until I'd disclose my discovery".
"Duh?! Why didn't you tell only us, the cousins?!" Shamo got grieved.
"How do you know our whispers weren't heard by these guys all this time?" Shusui raised eyebrow, "No one can hide anything in Kazekage's office once it's said. Be sure of it. My dad's a prison warden, his office is the same kind of place. Whatever you murmur the warden already knows".
"Quit acting wise, will you?" Shamo was in indignation. "This is the most important thing for me! For the first time in my whole life I got to meet my father!"
"Come on Shamo, it's obvious you're his daughter," Shusui frowned, "Just look at you two, you're copies of one another, it's just that you got Auntie Lao's hairstyle and some womanly features... and eyebrows. Other than that, you and the Kazekage look like two halves of the same apple".
And indeed, when Gaara and Shamo attentively looked at each other, they guessed Shusui was right. Now, paying attention on their similarities, Kankuro burst out in laughter.
"Oh god the child's right, you two are all the same! Oh, I guess we found real Gaara Junior now!" he was laughing hard. "But you know Gaara, your daughter's still more beautiful," he shrugged, "Her eyebrows are dazzling".
"Will you cut it out? Your jokes don't sound funny at all," Temari grumbled.
"Can't help it!" Kankuro was still laughing amusedly.
Shamo looked up at Gaara, feeling sad and happy at the same time. It was bizarre, but she felt this way. Tears gathered in her eye.
"I can't believe I finally found my father..." tears dropped down her cheeks. "After so many years..."
"You're just like your mother," Gaara chuckled, "So emotional... Come here. Calm down," and he folded her in his arms, "There are still a lot of surprises waiting for you, now when it's proven that you're my daughter".
Kankuro raised his eyebrow.
"I didn't know he was such a softie with girls," he whispered to Temari, watching Gaara.
"Not with them all, just that 'orchid' of his and apparently his daughter also..." Temari replied, her arms crossed.
Shamo hugged her father tightly, feeling soothed.
When the first wave of confusion, happiness, laughter, and all the mess passed, the reunited friends got directly on business.
"Now then, when this mission of ours is already accomplished, we need to get on with the important task - find Hana, and all those other kidnapped people," Mekano stated, frowning.
"Yeah, about that," and Kankuro grabbed his map again, "Their hideout was lastly seen here. But now there's no trace," and he pointed them on a certain location in the vast desert.
Hearing the words 'there's no trace', the cousins smirked and glanced at each other, and then all of them looked at Mekano.
Mekano chuckled and turned to surprised Kankuro:
"Are you sure there was no trace?"
"Yeah, we double-checked," Kankuro answered. "Why asking?"
"You western ninjas don't see certain trace we eastern shinobi can see..." Mekano answered, "We needed a certain spot to start the search from, you needed a powerful shinobi to guide you... Now that we're united, I guess we're all set - each party gained what they lacked".
"What do you mean?" Gaara calmly asked.
"He means that we can help find the trace those scums don't even know they're leaving," Shamo grinned.
"Oh, and how will you manage that?" Gaara got curious.
"If you knew our parents, Lord Kazekage, I'm sure you know a lot about Soul Energy as well," Shusui replied.
Hearing this, Gaara startled, as if recalling something... But then he gained back his calmness and nodded.
"I do".
"The manipulation of Soul Energy and chakra at the same time helps us to perform powerful combinations," Mekano said, "My specialty is that I can follow people's energy traces".
"Energy traces?!" Temari and Kankuro got confused, not being sure what this mechanic guy meant.
"The trace everyone leaves whenever they act," Mekano explained, "The aura, the energy, you can call it anything you like. But I can sense it".
"I understand, so you have Shao Lin's and Kokujin Hei's abilities," Gaara concluded, "Very good for you. They both were two of the fiercest ninjas I have known".
"He's more than that, he's actually Uncle Kokujin's son and Uncle Shao's disciple," Kaen grinned.
"Really?" Gaara raised both non-existent eyebrows in amazement, "That's a powerful combination itself".
Mekano chuckled, happy to be praised.
"You know, I don't understand a damn thing you say, but if you are sure you can find those bandits, then let's head out!" Kankuro leaped up in joy.
"Good idea," Gaara approved, and then turned to his sister: "Temari, will you come with us or does Shikamaru need you in Leaf?"
Temari laughed.
"Those two boys can do fine without me for a couple more days, you need my help more now," and she grabbed her giant fan.
Gaara smiled and stood up.
"Then we're heading out," he declared.
The sand ninjas bowed and went out to gather the ninja group.
Shamo was watching her father with brightened eyes, being amazed at how cool he was, just like in her mother's tales...
Now this is a dad one could dream for! She thought, her heart bouncing in happiness.
Soon the ninja group gathered and the legendary trio of the Hidden Sand - Kazekage Gaara, his right hand-man Kankuro, and their sister Temari Nara, together with the children of Hidden Fir heroes - Shamo Shin, Mekano Lin, Kaen Lin, Shusui Lin and Nami Shin - set out into the desert on a dangerous and challenging journey to retrieve their kidnapped friends, among which was the cousins' precious companion, Hana Shin...
