Shamo woke up and slowly raised her eyelids, looking around.
She noticed she was in a cozy room, in a warm bed, and there was an easy breeze blowing outside of the window, in the desert village...
She guessed she was back in the Hidden Sand Village, and got surprised to find herself in this room. The last thing she remembered was how she saw bandits cutting Hana!
She leaped up in dread, but the worst was still forward... She winched from pain, and looked down at her chest, finding it bandaged!
She got astonished, wondering how she got that wound... But then, as if all memories came back to her, she saw dreadful pictures running through her mind...
She saw everything.
She had lost her control and unleashed Diyuma on a rampage, killing all those bandits! And then she saw the image of her father, pressing her to his chest... calming her down...
Then the visions ceased.
She widened eyes in shock and terror, and pressed her hands to her head, being stressed - she killed those bandits... she killed people! She started a dreadful massacre!
As she worried about her terrifying visions, a big sand eye was watching her from outside of the window. Then it suddenly vanished.
Shamo heard strange sound of the sand and glanced at the window, but she saw nothing as the eye had long gone. She sighed, assuming it was just the breeze, and went back to her unpleasant thoughts.
Suddenly the door creaked. She startled and looked up at it, seeing her cousins come in!
"It's you guys!" she relieved, and sighed, looking down.
"Yeah, we heard you woke up," Mekano replied, walking up to her, "How are you feeling?"
"Fine..." Shamo shrugged, clearly seeming sad.
"You look distressed. What bothers you?" Kaen asked, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"Ugh, nothing..." Shamo looked away, tiny tear appearing in her eye.
"What is wrong, big sis?" Nami worriedly looked up at her, climbing up onto her bed and sitting on her feet.
Shamo glanced at them.
"Where's Hana? Is she alright?" she asked, her lips trembling as she feared to hear a disheartening answer...
"She's fine. She is alive and lies in hospital," Mekano answered, putting hand on her shoulder, "Calm down. The doctors said she will recover soon, so no need to worry".
"Whew, thank god..." Shamo wiped off her tear, her heartbeat slowing as she regained her calmness... Her little cousin was alright... It soothed her.
"But that's not the only thing that concerns you, is it?" Shusui asked, watching her with a slightly strict gaze.
Shamo sighed again.
"You're right..." she confessed, "I'm so sad I failed again... failed to restrain myself..." she wiped off another tear.
"Don't cry because of that," Shusui softly touched her palm, "No one can subdue Diyuma in a single day. You must work on it, practise hard, and train even harder. It is not an easy task to do. You know it".
"Yes but..." and Shamo started crying, "At my age mom could already control it so far not to unleash it at full force! I'm a failure!" she was lamenting.
"Don't forget that Auntie Lao had only a little part of Diyuma in herself, others were kept in her siblings, so she could never unleash Diyuma at full power without their help," Mekano noted. "That is the main reason she could control it, she told you that".
"Yeah but how can I learn to control Diyuma if even my mother and grandfather had a hard time?!" Shamo exclaimed, being depressed and hopeless.
"We could make it together," they suddenly heard a deep, calm voice.
The children startled and glanced at the door.
Gaara had come in, calmly gazing upon them.
"Ah, Lord Kazekage... Greetings, and thanks for visiting us," Shusui stood up and slightly bowed.
"Don't thank me, it is my duty to check on my daughter," Gaara smiled and walked up to them.
"Some people don't fulfill their duties, so the ones who do, must receive gratitude..." Nami beamed, sitting on Shamo's feet and looking at Gaara.
Gaara chuckled.
"I think I've heard those words somewhere before..." he smiled.
"Auntie Mao often says those words... But she's still a strict lady," Kaen coldly watched his fingers.
Gaara slightly chuckled again.
"I too have heard those same words from her... It was when I accompanied them to help Lao..." he softly smiled. "Mao Shin was a fine kunoichi..."
"She's the Elder Nun in our Temple System now," Kaen noted.
"Well, she always was spiritual and generous," Gaara uttered, not being surprised for the news.
"Anyway, father, you said you'll help me tame Diyuma... How are you going to make it?" Shamo was curious.
Gaara beamed.
"Your mother asked me to share my experience with you Shamo..." he tenderly caressed his daughter on hair. "I can teach you how to work on Diyuma, but how much you learn and how well you use it in practice, is up to you," he warned.
"But you haven't been a Diyuma Wielder yourself..." Shamo was still confused, "How do you have experience?"
"I'm the current Guardian of Diyuma, before you choose your own partner," Gaara answered, "And I've also been..." he looked down. Then he sighed and uttered: "I've been a jinchuriki of one-tailed beast, Shukaku".
Hearing this, the children gasped.
"You were a jinchuriki?!" Shamo exclaimed in astonishment.
"But how's that possible? I've read that if the tailed beast is extracted from the wielder, this latter dies," Shusui frowned.
"I did die..." Gaara sighed. But then a grateful smile covered his face: "But my friends brought me back to life..."
"Really?! You've been through death?!" the cousins' eyes widened.
"Unbelievable..." Kaen mumbled.
"Well, since two of your elders have also suffered death and been revived, you shouldn't be so surprised," Gaara smilingly noted.
"It's just that we didn't expect you'd be the same," Kaen giggled. "Cool".
Gaara chuckled.
Shamo blushed.
"Thanks for everything, father..." she beamed.
Gaara smiled and softly caressed her again, then walking out.
Mekano was in his thoughts all this time. As soon as Gaara went out, he puckered and exited too, going after him.
