Zion attempted to sit up and pry her eyes open as the winter's morning light shined through the window, but a strong grip prevented her from doing so. Her eyes fluttered open as she saw who held her captive, and was completely in shock when she discovered it was Kanda.
He looked less stern when he was sleeping, and he didn't feel like the cold person his personality displayed him as. His warmth was refreshing, and Zion couldn't help but try to get closer to that warmth, so she found herself inching closer to Kanda. His breaths were short and calm, barely tickling the girl's ear.
She couldn't help but smile at this side of the man who always had his guard raised. And only she would be able to see it, though the thought of possibly not ever being able to see it again was saddening. So, Zion took the moment to her advantage, nuzzling her bitter cold nose into Kanda's neck as he continued to hold onto her tightly.
A groan finally signaled Kanda's awakening. His muscular arms shifted, releasing their hold slightly. Once he felt Zion's tired breaths on his neck, he jerked away, completely waking both Exorcists.
The sudden movement pushed Zion into the wall, while Kanda stood abruptly with a flushed look on his face. The girl rubbed her head and groaned in irritation.
"Now you're throwing me?" She complained with half-lidded eyes.
Expectantly, Kanda grunted in response. The girl fell back down onto the plush bedding, clutching the blanket where the man's warmth lingered and inhaling deeply.
"You're so warm, Kanda." She looked at him with curious hazel eyes, but didn't expect a response.
"So?" He began to pull his silky hair back and dress in his usual uniform.
"Warm is nice during the winter." Grogginess was in her voice.
"So you want my warmth?" He turned slightly and raised a peculiar eyebrow.
Zion nodded.
"What do I get in return?"
"What do you want?" Kanda then walked towards the girl slowly, who had now sat upright and looked at him for answers. She watched him approach her steadily. He placed a sturdy finger below her chin and raised her head until her hazel eyes stared directly into his steel-toned ones. He smirked before quickly releasing her and returning to what he was doing before.
"Nothing." The cold man then left the room, leaving Zion alone, still absorbing the warmth emitting from the plush bed.
Following Kanda's actions, Zion also dressed herself and headed down the wooden stairwell of the house that belonged to the kind supporter of the Black Order, Denise Maillard. At the table in the center of the kitchen, food had been prepared for the three, and both Kanda and Lavi awaited her.
"Rise and shine, sleeping beauty." Lavi joked. "Since when do you sleep in?"
"Since I actually feel safe when I fall asleep." Zion stated, watching Kanda's eyes widen slightly at this comment.
"You actually feel safe sleeping in the same room as this guy?" The red-haired young man teased, pointing a finger at Kanda accusingly.
"More than you." She had every intent of offending him. Kanda released a quiet chuckle, only heard by Zion who smiled in return. However, Lavi didn't allow this gesture to go unnoticed.
"What happened with you two?" He pried with playfulness in his voice. "Did you finally do the deed?"
"No!" The response was yelled in unison from Kanda and Zion's mouths.
